Hayward trade idea

If the Lakers pick were owned by the Jazz, there would be no incentive by the NBA to rig the lottery...they don't care about Utah. Thus, hopefully, the lottery can be run as intended...all on the up and up.

So, if I'm understanding you correctly:

Hayward
Pick

For

Pick

?

First, the Lakers owe their pick to someone (on condition... top 14 or 20 protection or something).
Second, the Lakers will likely make the playoffs.

So you want to trade Hayward and a future pick in the 10-25 range for a pick this year in the 20-25 range?

The only good that could come from this is that it makes it more likely that GS misses the play offs.

According to ESPN, Lakers showing strong interest in NY Knicks' Shumpert to help with their backcourt. What if the Jazz offered Hayward + future draft pick (beyond 2014) to the Lakers in exchange for their 2014 1st rounder (unprotected) plus scrubs? We know Kobe thinks highly of Hayward, and he's a better all around player than Shumpert, right? Let's face it, in order to pry a prized 2014 1st round pick away from a lottery team, we can't be offering any garbage, it's gonna take our best player.

Like Colin Cowherd always says...the NBA is more prosperous when the "marquee" teams are successful (Celtics, Knicks, Lakers). Boston will probably make the playoffs in the pathetic eastern conference, the Knicks don't have a 2014 1st round pick, so that only leaves the Lakers. Call me cynical, but I could see the Lakers "miraculously" winning the lottery so that one of the League's flagship teams can get back on track as a championship contender.

Not only would such a trade help the Jazz tank get back on track, it also eliminates some of our ping pong ball competition.

The problem with your idea is that you are assuming that the Lakers wouldn't make the playoffs with Hayward. I think they would make the playoffs so that 2014 pick wouldn't be worth giving Hayward up. Another issue is that Hayward is a FA so the chance that the Lakers could/would extend him becomes an issue.

Good point, I didn't think about how it would affect GS. That still is a big chance that it might not keep GS out of the playoffs which would suck. Now if both LA and GS missed the playoffs and the Jazz were able to get three top 5 picks. It would be considered one of the greatest trade ever. Ok I was getting a little dizzy with that thought...

It would certainly ensure that the Jazz would be the worse team in the league.

Unless a team is going to trade us a top 4 pick, Lebron, CP3 or another super star then you don't trade Hayward.
