HC candidates

I don’t know that Jensen stays if Bryant is the coach. My concerns with Bryant is the possible buddy-buddy with Donovan. Bryant doesn’t have any HC experience and his reputation comes from his work with people individually. That doesn’t mean it’s bad or he can’t do the task, but that’s not specifically what we need to see on a résumé. I favor Jensen or Griffin. If it’s really down to Bryant, Young or Hardy, then I’m a little concerned in all of those guys’ ability to manage our particular dynamic.

Anyway, I’m on a tangent. Jensen is a bit older and has HC experience and has been a lead assistant even when Bryant was here. I don’t think he sticks around as an assistant in the same way that Igor was lead assistant under Quin but then became a HC. When he lost his job as HC, he went back to being an assistant, but isn’t going to return under the same person. It doesn’t have anything to do with any problem, it’s just an odd dynamic at that point.
If JB is hired as the coach I think it will be extremely important for us to bring in a former HC with experience as his top assistant. I'd be happy with JB as the HC and Stotts as his primary assistant.

I argued that’s what Quin needed last year. Perhaps we’d be in a different place right now.

I also think it’d be hard being a first time head coach in general and doing it at the NBA level and having someone with the kind of experience as Stotts has to be on the staff. I don’t want to say it’s intimidating but it’s like when a kid gets his license. He doesn’t want adults lingering like they’re still supervising, he wants to take his friends out and call the shots. It’s after you get that out of your system that you bring someone else in.

Doesn't Stotts have some ties to the organization?

I think that it'd be beneficial to have someone with head coaching experience to help with day to day stuff as JB gets adjusted.
Yeah but Stotts is probably a pretty intimidating one. I certainly wouldn’t mind that but I don’t necessarily see it.
