How does one check ketones?
Pee strips. There are saliva strips too but pee strips are more accurate. And it's not like a real number, it's a color scale. Today mine was way at the end of the scale.

How does one check ketones?

Welp, I made it 5 1/2 days. Ending my fast this morning. Woke up dizzy and lightheaded. Checked my BP and it was 100/72. Way too low for me. Don't want to push it too much. Starting with high fat foods which fits my body's current process of strong ketosis, which is what is recommended. Adding in more fiber later to let my digestive system get going easily again. Don't need a shock to the system.

Ended up at 246.2, which means exactly 12 pounds lost in 5 days essentially. Overall, 40.8 pounds. Since August 15th. Interested to see how this levels out in a week.

Wife feels a lot better this morning. We got some broth in her last night and it helped a lot. She's lost 10 pounds since surgery last Wednesday. I'm sure it will be more today when she weighs in. Glad to see her in better spirits. It's been very hard on her emotionally. As many of us know, dealing with daily pain is exhausting. And hers has been pretty bad. Very happy to see improvement.
Alright, one day of feeding, lost a half pound. Interesting. Ate about 1100 calories which is probably why I lost a little weight there, still under my BMR for calories. Going to about 1500 calories today, still full keto. I expected to gain weight yesterday even if it was just because now I have something in my intestinal tract and that was pretty well cleaned out for a few days there. I'm sure I'll add that extra 2-4 pounds we typically carry in our intestines over the next few days.

Jack LaLance once said that the scale lies, the waistband does not. How many inches have you lost?

2 days of refeeding and I gained 4.2 pounds. So now at 250.6. Interested to see where it goes. My gut is still dormant for the most part so I am sure I will have a healthy movement at some point, a lot of that is probably just what I ate as it is just sitting there. Constipation sucks. I will take diarrhea instead any day...well with my exploits maybe not any day. Both suck, let's just leave it at that. I am still intermittent fasting and eating keto for now. Mainly because I still have a bunch of keto foods we bought so I am working through that, then I will switch to just a whole foods diet, with fruits, veggies, and meats. Nothing processed if I can help it. Although I am DYING for ice cream. We have one of those liquid nitrogen places here locally and I want to get a whole quart of that so bad. Ugh. Still, the will is there. I did go a bit overboard yesterday, but it was all keto friendly, however I topped 1800 calories. But on keto that is not supposed to matter as much. If I can settle in at 250 or below for my next weigh-in I will be happy. I am not taking any weight this week as it is all jacked up from the fast. Next week back on the normal schedule.

Wife is up and down. Lots of pain and discomfort still. But the good thing is the direct pain is turning to discomfort more and more, which is progress. We walked maybe 2 miles or more every day over this weekend, a half hour walk at a time, as she needs to walk frequently to get her gut moving and expel all the gas that is left from the surgery. She lost 10 pounds so far following surgery, and I am sure it will keep dropping. The toughest thing is getting enough fluids. She says she is just dying to actually like guzzle a glass of water, but she can only really tolerate a few swallows before her gut is distended and uncomfortable, so keeping hydrated is tough.

Follow up appointment with the dr tomorrow. She should go on a more solid diet then, soft foods and not just liquids. She feels a lot better when she can get something more substantial than broth in her, like cream soups or what-not. Just good to see her improving even if it is just little by little. So far she says she regrets everything, but in the long run this will just be her big surgery story, and she will be happy about it overall I am sure.

@LogGrad98 how is your wife doing?

She's doing better every day. Eating more regular-ish food. Still adapting to just eating so much less, but that's part of it. Still has her moments when she curses the day she decided to do this, but it's getting better. Still a long slog ahead of her to really get adapted to everything but right now feeling pretty good.

So here is my update after all the crap going on the last 2 weeks. Seems some gains have stuck.

Week 0, Aug 15 = 287.0 lbs
Week 1, Aug 23 = 282.4 (-4.6)
Week 2, Aug 29 = 276.8 (-5.6; -10.2)
Week 3, Sept 6 = 274.0 (-2.8; -13.0)
Week 4, Sep 13 = 272.8 (-1.2; -14.2)
Week 5, Sep 20 = 268.2 (-4.6; - 18.8)
Week 6, Sep 27 = 265.8 (-2.4; -21.2)
Week 7, Oct 04 = 264.8 (-1.0; -22.2)
Week 8, Oct 11 = 258.4 (-6.4; -28.6)
Week 9 - bye week (surgery and water fast)
Week 10, Oct 25 = 251.8 (-6.6; -35.2)

Well more of the fast losses stuck than I expected. I did get back up to 256 briefly after refeeding, but then dropped down to 251. Probably water fluctuations and all that mostly. I will take it. Still essentially losing 3 pounds per week, as I have been mostly all along. Close to being in the 240's now, not bad. Still kind of surprised I haven't leveled out much at all along the way, as I keep expecting to stall out for at least a week or 2.

35 pounds is a good milestone. And my size 38s are starting to fit looser now. I imagine another 15 pounds or so to get firmly into 36s. Bought a new belt a few weeks ago and at the time it was on the first notch so almost too big, but now I am 1 notch away from it being too small.
