Holy Sloppy, Managed Poorly, No Homework Done, Questions From the Trash - Where's a Building? Thread

Archie, if the job is selling security systems door to door don't do it.

Ya, because sitting on your *** at home, collecting unemployment and/or Reservation monies is such a better option. Gods damn it, this is what is wrong with this country today. Quit being so damn proud and get your *** out there and get a mother ****ing job, you lazy pieces of ****. People who bitch about not being able to find a job make me want to wretch. There are plenty of jobs available that will hire you tomorrow, but you're too damn lazy and proud to go out and do them.

I already said this on page one or two. No responses though. Evidently our way of thinking isn't of popular belief.

Sorry we cant all be insurance salesman.

More people lose money when they do door to door then make money. Not to mention they don't give you any health benefits which him having a baby is must. Also Archie is a recent college graduate. Maybe he has school loans where a job making less than 30,000 or something wont cut it.

Sure lots of companies will hire him for peanuts. But even if he worked there he would still qualify for welfare.

Let's see, while I was unemployed looking for a job I still had to provide for a family of 6. I did not want my relatives to have to carry that burden. My job search was extensive, I spent minimum 7-9 hours per day, 5-6 days per week, researching companies, making phone calls, sending resumes, pounding the pavement, canvassing friends and old colleagues (I made it my "full-time job" and kept a fairly detailed log). I did the math and all the jobs I had available to me at that time I would have to work at least 8 hours per day to max out anything much beyond what unemployment paid.

So I should take a min wage job and work 8-10 hours per day just to get off unemployment, and make marginally more than unemployment is paying so I still cannot provide for my family, and ALSO I can't look for a job as much as I did before, so my time employed at this level is lengthened by who knows how long?

Great plan.

I did take a job with the Census from Dec 09 to Jul 10, because that paid more than twice what I was making from unemployment, but during that time my job search efforts had to be cut drastically since it was a salaried position and we were working 10-12 hour days. I figure I lost about 3 months of job search time, all told, while I worked there (on the per hour basis I was logging). Maybe I could have had a better job months earlier than I did had I not worked there. But I felt I needed to do what I could to ease the burden on my family and other relatives.

You obviously have never been in that boat before. When you talk out of your *** it is amazing how far down your throat you can stick your foot.

Trout, it's nothing to do with being proud. I mean, why take a job when you and your employer know that you'll have one foot in the door and one foot out of the door? It's not fair to them (hiring and retaining is very expensive) and it's not fair to the employee. Why sell yourself short? I mean, I actually have been doing odd jobs for the past few months (mostly recreational stuff like reffing, umpiring, site supervising) and I've even had interviews for jobs that I was way too qualified for only to be denied because of what I said previously. I could go flip burgers and trust me I would if my situation required it, but it doesn't. We're not in any debt, we both manage our money very well and we've made some smart choices that will take care of us for a while even if I wasn't able to find a job.

With all that being said, I got the job I interviewed for yesterday and I start on Monday. It's about flipping time cause I worked my *** off for about 4 hours a day applying for jobs and I went to 15 interviews. I finally landed the job in the one interview I didn't actually say "hehepeepeecaca."

What kind of job is it?

I'm not sure if you're deaf, dumb and/or blind but what in the holy ****ing hell are you talking about? Insurance salesman or working at Target, what does it matter? Many people, including Archie, have passed up jobs because they feel it's below them. That's ****ing lame. You mention health benefits and how 30K might not cut it. Well, right now, he has zero health benefits and zero income. I'm assuming since he's a recent college grad, he also doesn't qualify or therefore collect unemployment. How's that working out for him?

It's pretty ****ing simple really. Apply for as many ****ing jobs as possible. For those for which you are called, interview. Select one that pays. $10/hour at 40 hours a week is about 20K annually. Now if you want to pass that up for a little while thinking you'll get something better, more power to you. But at some point, you need a job and will have to accept a job like that. Is the salary ****ty? Yes. But it's 20K more than sitting around your house and crossing your fingers, hoping that the next day will bring something better. If you still don't want that, don't come crying to a message board. Taking this ****ty job that pays him 20K more than the $0 he's making doesn't prohibit him from getting the job for which he got his education. The one which will hopefully have the health benefits and better salary you mentioned. Not taking the job does however prohibit him from providing for himself, his wife, and at some point, his newborn. Groceries, rent/mortgage, utility bills. These things cost money. Lots of money in many cases. And without at least that stop-gap 20K job to help him and his wife get by month to month, before he gets the job for which he feels he's better suited and qualified, he could be ****ed.

This is a joke and you clearly don't know my situation, guy.

The difference is, to my knowledge, Archie wasn't collecting unemployment. Monumental difference.

I didn't read the part about you reffing and such til just now.

Why come crying to a message board then? Were you just attention whoring once again?

I was frustrated I quit a job making six figures to go back to school for degree so more doors would be opened for me - only to find it doesn't work that way. For some naive reason, I thought once I graduated, I would be picking where I worked.

Frustrating? Hell to the yes.
