Hood is more important than you think

He's shifty and quick explosive. He'll get a lot of open threes because you can't close out to him hard because you are then at his mercy. If he stays healthy I see an efficient 20 pt per games scorer. I was also impressed with his defensive improvement. He was horrible in SL, but by the end of the year was doing pretty well on ball... has some issues on the off ball types chasing around screens.

Hood is very shifty (great at changing speeds) but he's far from quick explosive. He's one of the slower wings in the league.

He's not explosive, but he's athletic enough to get the job done. Hoping with that shot that he becomes our Danny Green/Kyle Korver perimeter scoring threat. Don't care if it's from the bench or the starting lineup, but I think he brings a lot to the table.

I have to disagree with coach Q.
Every player has weaknesses. Im not sure what his free throw percentage was but I think it was kind of poor.

I don't remember him being great at finishing at the rim with contact
I can't remember him going for rebounds very often
I saw him struggle to defend against speed.
He dribbles too high (as another poster said)

That is nitpicking though. He isn't really bad at anything and the things he is good at he seems to be very good to elite at. And he was only a rookie who missed a lot of games

Plus he has the prettiest shot in the league

U are underrating Burks. U realize he was hampered a lot of the hear by the shoulder and kept him from being the aggressive player he was the year before right? Despite the bum shoulder he still improved his shooting from mid and long range shooting. Personally I'd like to see him start while Hood is our 6th man just because he would have a Ginobili affect as to keeping the offense more relevant. The only way I want to see Burks playing pg is if we plan on starting him. We would be wasting his talent making him some backup pg.

I hope I'm wrong. I recognize that he had a bum shoulder last year, but I still think a SG who can't shoot is a problem. All of our wing players need to be able to hit the three consistently. He may improve that aspect of his game and I think he has value as a bench player, but I'd rather have a well rounded wing player who can nail the outside shot at any given time. I don't dislike Burks, just don't think he's that good.

I think you misunderstand me.

How am I underrating him if I think he can cover backup PG mins and still be a part of the 2 rotation?

Doesn't calling for an expanded role for Burks show that I may be overrating him?

We could still start Burks although I don't think it should matter as long as he gets ~30 mins. Exum,Burks,Hayward,Favors,Gobert. Sub Hood for Exum, Burks slides over to the one.

My point is u can't be going between 1&2 if he's going to learn the position. Pg isn't a spot that u can learn over night if it's not ur natural position and I don't want him playing any backup pg if he isn't going to fully commit to it.

He did improve that aspect of his game with a hurt shoulder no less. He shot 38% last year. Being 100% next year he should continue to improve his shot.

He wouldn't be a traditional PG. He would be a ball handler for bringing the ball up the court but other than that he would still be a two. The offense would be ran through a combination of Burks and the wings. Team ball.

For Ty Corbin, I'd want him at the two and only the two. In Snyder's system, I'd LOVE him just at the PG spot and have him fill Burke's scoring role off the bench behind Dante Exum. I think that how they used Burke is exactly how they should be using Burks instead. I agree that he shouldn't split time between the two spots. . . but. . . Exum already spent some time on the court with Trey and I think he can fit better next to Burks. Depending on how Snyder teaches them, I could see him on the court with Exum in small ball lineups.

Hood is the main reason I don't want a wing on this draft. Booker is the one guy who I think could be special, if he were there, I'd probably pull the trigger, but outside of him, I want no part of any wings.

Hard to say that after watching GS completely troll the league with their Curry/Thompson/Iggy/Barnes/Green lineup.

Hayward/Burks/Hood is a great foundation of young wings, but adding someone like Stanley Johnson who can theoretically offer 3/4 flexibility would be very appealing; that's the current trend of the NBA, and it's only going to magnify after GS actually won with it.

Small sample size, but we should get a better idea pretty quickly this year. Improving an outside shot usually requires multiple years of improvement, but let's all hope Burks has range this year.

Yeah, this dimension of his game and his ball handling should come in handy. I like Burks as the first wing off the bench.
