Assuming they are unable to sign a starter quality SG? WTF IMO they have 2 in Hood and Burks. SG is not a big need for the Jazz this off season, unless they replace Ingles or Millsap for the 3rd SG spot
Actually, I like that. If the Jazz roll with any combination of Hood and Burks they will be able to cover the SG position for 3 seasons for just 11-12 million. That would be a smart move, allowing them to spend money somewhere else. Plus Hood can also play SF and Burks could play some PG, which gives Quinn a lot of flexibility.

I said Exum and Hood should start near the beginning of the season, and look what's happening now!

Jazz need to trade their 2016 pick and burke to move up. Take on Salary if needed. Get a difference maker. They already have a good core of 6-7 guys that can all contribute, and 1 more good player (Hezonja, Russel, Johnson) would really fill out the team pretty well. Hood is good with the starting unit, but would also be good in the second team. I personally would like Johnson, because the starting defense would be unreal, but the other 2 could really compliment the team pretty well too.

Tough question, and I like many of you, prefer Hood starting and Burks crushing 2nd units. I have no idea how that will go over with Burks.
.
The Jazz are at that point (with the return of Burks) that I've also joined the ranks that believe the Jazz do not need a "star FA". In the last 40 games Booner said jazz are 23-17 and it is possible the jazz will go 24-10 in the last 34 (I think)... That means they are in the throws of the playoff race and it is time to evaluate the competition and see which teams are the trouble spots.
.
WEST:
SA, Dallas? Not too worried.
Houston? I can't objectively grade them. I don't like them historically and hate Superman as a player - so I'm not worried.
Portland? Can Dante put the D on Damien? I believe Faves can put some D on LMA so I'm not too worried about them
Clippers? Ditto Portland other than Paul is old enough to be on the way down in few years.
.
So it is Warriors - a very different team than Utah so match up is weird. For this reason, Elijah is valuable D on one of the smash bros,
And it is Pelicans - Brow is the new league perennial MVP. I think Gobert is the only hope against him and we got the Stifle Tower.
And it is OKC - I think durantula and westbrook are the absolute competitor to be looking at long term. They are same age, got two MVP candidates who we don't have obvious defenders. So I would be picking my FA's based on these guys. (Oh and the have Kanter too.. :-)
.
EAST
Cleveland - they are the other OKC-level. Jazz will be peaking when LBJ is 33ish. Will he still be playing like a GOAT? Kyrie is still young... again it comes down to Dante's D...
Hotlanta? I'm thnking they are second tier and old enough not to be in the Jazz window.
.

Looking in summary it is about Dante's D and matching up with Durantuala. I believe our bigs are about 1 year away from being unmatched (too much Jazz kool-aid?) And so the right specialist is needed. Can Hayward slow down durantuala? A lot of durantula and westbrook game is getting to rim. How much impact then can Rudy and Favs have?
.
What I'm I missing?

I think you got to give Burks the opportunity to see what he can do with Exum and Gobert on the floor. I think both players will make him more dangerous. Exum because he's pass first and Gobert because he is there to clean up the boards and for drop passes when Burks breaks down the D and attacks the basket.

Ultimately, Hood may be the better option; but you have to give Burks at least 20 to 25 starts when he returns.

I prefer Hood in the starting line up because Burks would dominate second units, while Hood wouldn't. In addition to better spacing blah blah.

And hey, if he can take shots away from Burke, all the more reason to put Burks with the second unit.

I was liking what Burks was doing in the starting line up before he got hurt. So I'm not really sure what I'd like to see... Hood seems like the better player to put with Exum though...

honestly, i think people are under-valuing Burks, and unempirically over-valuing hood.

Burks is better at nearly every facet of the game. I might be in the minority, but i stand behind burks until hood shows he's better (for real).
