What's new

How are we number 8 in these power rankings???? Seriously?????

People who don't follow the Jazz closely tend to think Carlos Boozer is a superstar based on his stats but they don't know that he doesn't play defense and misses 50% of his games. So who cares about what they think?

We have to be better than the Spurs and the Blazers at this point, no doubt about that.

I agree. Carlos is overvalued because he put up good stats on a good team. Jefferson is undervalued because he played for a terrible team. I mean how could Al be any good? He couldn't even help the TWolves avoid losing 60 games. We're going to be much, much better than most people think. I wouldn;t be surprised at the end of the year to be sitting in the #2 slot with Al having a 23/12 year.

And LOL @ the notion of Kyle Korver being a "key" piece. Was he ever a key piece for us, I mean, really? The *******'s defining moment was neglecting to take the three in the closing seconds of that Laker playoff game a couple years ago. Good riddance.

Well, he did average 7/2/2 in 20 mins. I mean, how could Homzward ever equal those stats?

Lol; I doubt if these rather swift moves by the Jazz brass have totally sunk in with the NBA prognosticators. I'm betting the Lakers have noticed... I expect ESPN won't notice anyone outside Miami and LA all year...

Hate being that guy, but I think Boozer is going to be someone who we miss by the end of the year. He was tough; albeit missed a lot of games, but when he played, he was awesome. Korver...didn't he shoot an NBA record last year as far as percentage goes for 3 pointers? I mean, you can't say he's bad, or wasn't someone we liked or needed on the team. He's good. He'll prob. be really good in CHI with Boozer. Just saying the two we lost can't be overlooked at all. Jefferson is an outstanding pick-up, but I will miss what Boozer and Kyle brought to the table.

Boozer was tough? What planet are you from? He's softer than Dirk for God's sake.

So last week we were horrible and the sky is falling and now we are world beaters. Neither is true. Get off the kool-aid. We are still a 2nd tier playoff team. A power ranking of 8 is very fair. May even be high depending upon what Raja has left in the tank.

OK, honest question: what combo would you rather have? Boozer/Korver OR Jefferson/Bell?

That's a tough one. I say Boozer/Korver. And, I thought he was a tough player, yes. I don't know, maybe it's just me.

Jefferson/Bell by a mile. I've been begging for some toughness on this team for 3 years now and I finally got my wish. Shoot, I guess dreams really do come true.

Let me explain. Last week, no Jefferson or Bell. This week, Jefferson and Bell. Hence the change in attitude. If we can't get excited about these two moves when the hell are we ever allowed to be excited?

Depends if you are playing a 2 on 2 pick up game or if you are playing regular hoop against the LAL. I pick the Jefferson/Bell becuase I KNOW Boozer/Korver didn't work against the lakers.

Boozer is a great athlete who is arguably worth $15M per year. But not here. Why? In the games against LAL, DEN, DAL in total he averaged notably below his season average in pts and fg%. We saw that struggle with big guys and it shows in the stats. And we have Sap as an identical player (in style) and pretty good in production. When we add a different dimension in AJ - a low post guy who averages above his pts and at his fg% against LAL then we see (with some kool aid) that he could be our answer.

Korver is a good shooter, but I think Raja D is the equivelnt of "best 3pt % in NBA history" as a specialist. BUT his offense is better than KK defense. So it is worth it to have him as another dimension as well.

Guarantee: we are no worse with this line-up. There is a chance we could be better. To have this plan unfold before us for real is worthy of a full punch bowl of kool-aid and livin' it up.

Seriously bro.

I'm glad that we got Jefferson/Bell. I mean something had to be done after losing our starting PF and our sharp-shooter in Korver. I just find that it is going to be harder to replace Boozer than originally anticipated, that's all. Again, I could be completely wrong, not arguing that, but what I believe right now is basically this: Boozer > Jefferson

I think I can see what you're saying, but a guy like Jefferson playing with DWill and in Jerry Sloan's system is going to dominate.

We have a lot of reason to beleive that Jefferson will flourish here. Most players do. One of Jerry's strengths is doing very simple things to make enough of an advantage to make a difference. While i don't want to ruin the kool-aid drinking party by mentioning sloan, i think we can all agree that the system - his system churns out a lot of consistency and winning.

For instance there is a chance that the cross screens will come back. David Locke pointed out that AJ scores ~80% (a huge%) when he gest the ball on left side, close in to use a short jump hook. Well, the cross screens for Karl were used to get him 2ft closer to the hoop. That 2 ft makes the difference. Carlos didn't need (couldn't use) those becuase he was not charging into the lane to score.

I'm just elated at the fact that we can run a little high pick and roll with Sap, then some low block with AJ, then high, then low, then low, high to mix it up. That will take just an ounce or two pressure off both players. Enough to make a difference.

How good of a post passer was/is Raja? That will be more important now that we have a low post hero. Horny and Malone were good together. (Obviously Stockton and Malone were good...) AK is good at this. CJ is a pretty good passer. It appeared Hayward was in Summer League. We have a lot ot look forward to.
