If I were Dallas, I'd be open to moving my draft pick at #11 in a deal for someone who can help me sooner. Probably they'll bring in a point guard from somewhere, since Kyrie is out for the season.

The Warriors and Magic arent what I would call dumb franchises, at least not in the sense that they get played in trades.
Yeah, this is turning into a tangential discussion. Although I do think the Magic are dumb, their errors are about the things they don’t do rather than the things they do (which is usually what makes owners loud dumb). I guess you can’t be played in trades when you never make them.
The Warriors might be desperate because they should be. Lauri might be the perfect piece to get them across the finish line/extend their window.
Yeah....the only roadblock may be that Kuminga also has to agree, but I’m not sure he’s getting better than $38M guaranteed for just one season. He turns into a giant, expiring contract after that. I totally get the reservations about giving him long term money and relying on him to be a piece for the future….but as salary matching to open up what is probably one of our best trade partners I’m definitely open to it. Not many Lauri destinations to begin with.
I think it would leave us in a great situation. We have our pick this year, we hit the top of the draft next year, we’ve added future draft compensation for an aging team going all in, and we have this giant expiring contract that’s ideal for making a star trade. I think we stress about “the timeline” too much, but this would represent a coherent team building strategy.
I just feel like Lacob is too scared of getting played to get played that big.
Yeah I wouldn’t say the Warriors are dumb or that getting Lauri is a dumb move. But they put themselves on the clock and committed to winning now with the Jimmy move. And why shouldn’t they? Steph is their franchise and they should have already been doing this instead of messing around with the two timelines. They need to make the most out of this Kuminga situation and I think Lauri is about as good as it gets for them. We really wouldn’t be exploiting them which I guess is the point of this thread, but we’d be taking advantage of a team operating with some desperation.
As far as the magic….id just say they are dumb for not acquiring any shooters and rolling out Corey Joseph as their starter.
I don’t think it’s fear, they’re smart. Their asset management has been pretty awesome, notwithstanding that they kinda whiffed in their recent trips to the lottery.

1. Offer them good role players and late first round picks for generational talents.
2. Surround those generational talents with good talent and enjoy the fruits of your labors in the post season.
3. Meanwhile, watch the dumb franchise fritter away 3+ years of being unable to decide whether to tank or not and draft poorly. They draft players who lack motors, lack athleticism, or suffer major injuries. You see them fall flat on their faces every year in free agency. You laugh as they waste season after season playing joyless and meaningless games. Meanwhile your franchise plays important games and packs your arena with loud rabid fans throughout the month of May and June.
We’ve just gotta find a stupid GM to exploit. That’s all!

Tbf, I do think they have had a rough 3 years. They won the championship, had the number 2 pick (after having the #7 pick the year before), and still found a way to mess that up. They really torched some prime years of Steph/Green and a wealth of young players/assets at the same time. I think what they've done recently by actually trying to win with their franchise players is good business and what they should have been doing. Jazz trying to lose, Warriors trying to win. We just make sense as trading partners even if it's not really the spirit of the thread.
Dallas is really screwed, betting on three injury-prone players on the wrong side of 30 y.o. (Davis, Klay & Kyrie).
