I'm as confused by this as Trump is trying to figure out, and guessing wrong, which side of the Bible goes up.

He meant to grab Mein Kampf.

Ruth Ben-Ghiat is one of our nation’s academic authorities on fascism, on authoritarianism in general. No need to listen to the troll claiming Trump is not authoritarian!! And not a fascist. Of course he is.

And Robert Reich:

That 1939 MSG rally. The lesson being that these attitudes are always there, somewhere, among individuals and groups in our society. Ugliness can and does happen. Ugly fascist philosophy is always bubbling under the surface, but it’s been pretty fringe. Until now. With Trump, it’s not fringe, it’s being mainstreamed through his take over of the Republican Party:

Two longer talks by Ruth Ben-Ghiat. Why listen to trolling clowns when you can listen to intelligent discourse?

Trump knows exactly what he’s doing. As Anne Applebaum summarized:

“These phrases have not been put on posters and banners at random in the final weeks of an American election season. With less than three weeks left to go, most candidates would be fighting for the middle ground, for the swing voters. Trump is doing the exact opposite. Why? There can be only one answer: because he and his campaign team believe that by using the tactics of the 1930s, they can win. The deliberate dehumanization of whole groups of people; the references to police, to violence, to the “bloodbath” that Trump has said will unfold if he doesn’t win; the cultivation of hatred not only against immigrants but also against political opponents—none of this has been used successfully in modern American politics”.

Believe your eyes and ears. Trump has been far more successful than anyone else, in our history, in bringing a fascist hatefest into our body politic. Sadly, so many people, ignorant of history, are unable to recognize what is happening WHILE it is happening.
Last Sunday, at MSG, was the climax of this fascist hatefest. The most transparent demonstration yet of the emergence of a fascist movement in the United States. He’s making it harder for those who cannot see what is happening, to see more clearly, should they choose. But, alas, the desire to own and destroy the libs is strong.

He's just a piece of ****.
I didn’t see that red had already posted this video until after.

What does it say about the people who see Trump say this and don’t care? Or the people who see this and actually like Trump more? They’re garbage people, right? What other conclusion are moral people who have just a basic understanding of history to take from this? These are People who have a completely different set of values than I do. People completely ignorant (or worse) of what this type of rhetoric always leads to. You can’t keep stirring your base to anger without there being consequences. It’s why our political dialogue has been completely degraded. It’s why librarians and doctors annd weathermen are screamed at by MAGA. It’s why racists and misogynists feel empowered by him.

So what does this say about his base? Trump is awful. But who are the people who either don’t care about this rhetoric or those who like it? What conclusions am I to make about these people?

1. It's pretty weird that trump literally uses the same exact words and phrases that Hitler used.

2. It's WAY MORE weird that using the same exact words and phrases Hitler used doesn't seem to be hurting his chances of winning a US election.
