What's new

How did Exum look last night?

I don't want Rubio to walk after next year, but I also don't want to pay him anything near his current salary. He is a good player, but paying a PG his style and would be age anything more than $12 per could hamper us. Think matchups - if Exum is our starting PG, what role does Rubio play? Do we pay him $12+ just if Exum gets hurt? We cant bring him in to spread the floor. And his athleticism will soon be on the decline.

This summer with Favors and next with Rubio are going to be interesting.

I'm sorry, but most of this is incorrect.

Rubio is 27, not 33. He's entering his prime. And 12m for a PG capable of doing what he's doing that's fan friendly? Yes please. There maybe a styles clash, but he's adapted well enough.

If Rubio keep this current production and wants to come back for that, DL would be crazy not to do that. Until proven otherwise, Exum is a "what could have been" type of player. Rubio is a hell of a productive PG playing out of his mind right now and it's very possible he's figure out his shooting kinks. Exum is a sneeze away from missing the playoffs due to back spasms. And I do like X. He brings a different facet to the game, but Rubio is simply better for the Jazz right now. The future may change if Exum stays healthy. But somehow, I doubt it.

Wtf are you on about “a sneeze away from missing due to back spasms” ?

You obviously haven’t been watching him throw himself at the rim without fear and getting up and sprinting back down. Name one lame soft tissue injury he’s had ?

I’m on board the Ricky train but which of the two is out with a strain type injury atm ??

Exum is injury prone. I love his potential and he's playing more without the trepidation. But his injury history must be taken into account.

I love it when we point to historically worst PER ever after Exum's first season some people quickly dismiss it as "PER is useless stat". Yet here we see PER used after few games to tell that Exum is great? There is no question kid looks much better - but the sample is very limited. How about we let him have at least 30-40 games and then talk how good or bad he is.

Thanks for reminding me of this. There used to be some fans here who repeatedly claimed Exum's low PER in his earliest days were somehow predictive of his long-term success. And no matter how many times they were explained the stupidity of this argument, they held firmly to this belief. Obviously it still annoys me a bit.

WTF? If you can extent Ricky for, say, 3 years at 12M, you do that and run smiling into the sunset. I want Ricky to stay. Ricky, DM, Exum backcourt is a nightmare for everyone else.

Exum isn't injury prone. He's been injured twice in his career. Both where unfortuately bad injuries, but has he even missed a single game outside of those two (I think maybe he has, but it's at most a handful)? And he's looking great to boot. Dante's a part of our future.

Lets put it this way. I would not call him injury prone - but the way he lands on the floor almost every time he drives is certainly concerning and can make him prone to injuries. Some people just have awesome coordination and some not. Exum is lanky, goofy, awkward dude and even with gained strength he ends up laying on the floor almost every time there is any contact on his drive or layup attempts. It is worrisome to me.

I'm glad you are not our GM. That whole paragraph is just wow.
What's wrong with his "style"? You don't like the man-bun? Because his basketball style looks great to me.
Would be age? Is he 33? He's 27!!
If Exum is our starting PG? If? Rubio would play only if Exum gets hurt? WTF?
We cant bring him in to spread the floor? WTF? You know that guy Joe Ingles? He's shooting 44% from 3 in 2018. Rubio is shooting 41% (and made 10 of his last 15).
His athleticism will soon be on the decline? On the decline? Soon!!!??? 27 YEARS OLD. Also, how many players on the league rely LESS on athleticism?

Mitchell Rubio and Exum can share minutes. All 3 are absolutely interchangeable.
