How did you became a Jazz fan?

So I decided that I do need to start posting here after all those years:)

I can't remember when EXACTLY I started watching the Jazz, mainly because back than you couldn't control what you can watch on TV.
I'm an Israeli and I'm 30 years old. back at the beginning of the 90s, we had only three watchable TV stations: Channel 1, which is the main nationally funded station; Channel 23 (go figure why the jump to the number 23 ), which is the "educational" sibling of the former station; and METV, which stand for Middle East TV and was broadcasted from Lebanon. The last one was quite awesome and was the closest thing to cable TV you could find back than. It was very up to date with a lot of movies, TV shows and sports. They used to broadcast a lot of Lakers and Knicks basketball, but with the Jazz being the closest thing to European basketball, they broadcasted some Jazz games as well. So I was a thin 3rd grader who just started playing and watching basketball when I first saw the Jazz playing. I remembered some Jazz players, especially Malone, Stockton and Eaton. Fast forward to double Finals trips, where I was lucky enough to watch some next day re-runs of the finals. By than I could define myself as a junior Jazz fan, while it was largely unpopular... the Bulls where very dominant in Israel.

I think I became a true Jazz fan when I started playing NBA Live 2000 on PC. It didn't take me too long to know everything about each player, and starting to regularly following the Jazz via the internet and occasionally broadcasted games on NBA TV, which was part of the sports package on cable TV. When Stockton retired I was in the Army. I remember sitting in my tank (I was a gun loader) when the driver, a good friend and a diehard Lakers friend broke me the news about Malone. I was furious! Strangely enough though, I was quite fond of that year's team... When I finished my army service in late 2004, I started to watch a lot of live games. I started adjusting my working shifts at a local gas station so I could watch every Jazz games that was being broadcasted in Israel. When I started working as a security officer during my university years (2006-2009), I was working A LOT of night shifts - If I was awake in the middle of the night watching games, I might as well make some money out of it.... During those years, around 2007, I discovered Jazzfanz. It became part of my daily internet routine - check the news (we are news addicts in Israel), check my email, check Jazzfanz and than the rest of the net.

Nowadays, I'm an primary school teacher, meaning I can rarely watch live games anymore. I do watch re-runs via the wonderful, yet expensive, international NBA League Pass.

So,
What is your story?

I was a Bulls, Mavs and my hometown's basketball squad fan. Still am the first and last. Was browsing around when Schröder was in the draft process and found this board and had fun reading it and sharing. I became increasingly pissed of the Mavs not making the right basketball moves. Kinda liked Cuban before he went from "You can fine me but you can't shut me up" to another conservative greedy revenue ridden owner who wants to cash in on the dusk of Dirk's career.
So I had a spot open in my heart and wanted to become more active in basketball conversations. Bulls forums on Realgm or other places(I forgot where I looked else) are the worst place to be. Really obnoxious bunch of smug Americans who aren't willing to accept that Chicago is not NY or LA lifestyle wise and don't accept anything but 82-0 seasons in their "mid-major" market that they think is the biggest city of all :D . Delusional about their own squad in positive and negative assessments. Simply no place for a sane person to stay.
Since I liked it here I decided the Jazz are my new Western Conference crush. I've always liked the underdogs team writing cinderella stories. My hometown's team is really similar to the Jazz. Have enjoyed it up to this point. Haven't picked a fav Jazz player yet. But I feel like the '14 firstrounder and Hayward are most likely to become it with Kanter having outside chances.
If by any chance I'll be in the States at some point of my life I'll go visit a Jazz game for sure.
One of my favorite music producer is a guy naming himself "Utah Jazz". That might have unconciously influenced my new affection for the Jazz.

i was searching porn on xnxx and i saw a video named utah jazz gives the dicjk

Memo Okur obviously

I remember a thread last year or something like this about the same topic. My reason is money man's joining Jazz in 2004.

Hi fellow Jazz fans,

my name is Šimon, I am 24 and living in Slovakia.

I started to root for the Jazz during 04/05 season I think, the one where Jazz went for tied record of 41-41 and barely missed the playoff. Some of my friend were already little bit into NBA and shared some information with me. One day we watched weekly NBA magazine together on TV and there was a report about Jazz with Memo and AK. I remember Memo saying that AK will be the best shot blocker of the league, which I found very funny as back then, to me, with little to no knowledge, it was something unimaginable that white guy could be best shot blocker. I thought Memo was making fun of him. That sparked some interest in me.

They also mentioned that Jazz are fighting for play-off spot (it was late into the season) and will do everything to get there. So from that day on, I started to follow the result on teletext, as our family had no internet connection back then and there were only one televised matched a week, no Jazz of course and on channel we did not have either. So my friend started to record the televised matches for me and I watched it on VHS, followed the teletext everyday and few years later, here I am, a full time Jazz fan. Watching all the Jazz matches via League pass, listening to Locke's podcast, lurking forums. During my university times, I managed to watch all Jazz games for 2 seasons straight live, which is quite a feat when you live in Europe.

Just a few notes so you can categorize me:

I support youth movement, I am giving coach Corbin his last shot this year, I see Gordon as a leader of our team.

Thank you for your time, not sure how much will I post in the future, will definitely continue lurking.

Great to see you post a thread.. and a nice post at that.
Good on ya!

I'm from Portland, so I should be a Blazer fan.

But I grew up in the 90's, with parents that were both from Utah. And the Jazz were a lot more memorable than the Blazers in the 90's.

Moved to Utah in the 00's, and met a guy that was a huge Jazz fan in high school. Ended up really getting into it around then.

you're a BAWSE man, keep posting!

I moved from Montana to Utah in '78 right before the Jazz moved to Utah.
Timing is everything!

I went to a game in '82 with some friends, liked it and ended up going to about 20 games that year. Bought season tickets the next year and have owned or shared season tickets ever since. I've split tickets for about the last dozen years, so I go to about 20 games a year -- tivo the rest.

I grew up in Chicago following the Bulls teams of the '90s. The Jazz played the Bulls much tougher than any team I'd seen, so I had a respect for them. After they broke up that team after '98, I stopped caring about basketball for a few years, and I ended up moving to Salt Lake City in '02. Being used to the 24/7/365 sports bombardment in Chicago, I started following the Jazz a little bit the season that Sloan took a bunch of nobodies that was predicted to win 7 games to 42-40. By the time the Jazz drafted Deron from the University of Illinois, I was hooked and have been since.

I think I've told this story a few times already...

My dad was mostly a football fan. He was on his Kanab, UT HS team and they upset Cedar City that year or something. He always rooted for NFL teams with some sort of Utah connection (Chicago was his #1 because of Jim McMahon). I think he started getting into the Jazz back in the early 80s when they played L.A. in a first round series and almost pulled off the major upset.

FFW, my parents bought a used car from a LHM dealership and got two tickets to two games during the '92 season. My mom and dad went to the GS vs Utah game and my dad took me to the Bulls vs Jazz game. Seats were way up top in the corner. Anyway, I have like a split personality when I'm at sporting events and tend to go bat **** crazy screaming and yelling and lose my voice by the end of the night. This was my first NBA game and it went into triple-overtime when finally Jordan got ejected and the Jazz pulled off the win. I had never experienced anything like that with the crowd at the Delta Center being so passionate and loud. Pretty much from that moment forward my dad and I watched every game we could together. I remember when I got a job at Shopko in the electronics dept and I'd turn all the TVs to the Jazz game and call my dad on the phone every chance I got so we could talk about how the game was going. Even after I moved out I usually tried to get to my parents house to watch the games.

I kind of stopped paying attention after I joined the Navy in 2000, but shortly before I left the Navy my father passed away and after I got out I moved back to Utah. The Jazz had Deron, Boozer, Memo, AK and Millsap. It wasn't too hard to get back into it and it really helped me feel like I still had a connection to my father.

That's badass you were at the 3 OT game.

I was at that game 5th row with my Dad.

We got on the jumbotron with a sign that said "Yo Micheal, Utah is Karl Malone's Playground" in reference to his Micheal Jordan's Playground movie. We got on Sportscenter too.

Nice story!

Can only return the compliment. His blues/jazzy tunes are my primary source of inner retreat when everything around me's getting too much and I need to set my head straight while enjoying a moment of solitude.
