Catchall, why did you drop Dallas to #3?

Because I don't think the odds are that they'll get more wins than the Lakers and Thunder. Kidd and Terry are getting older. They need JJ Barea back or for Beaubois to become a factor. They need to re-sign Chandler. They need Caron Butler to come back healthy, although they benefit from Deshawn Stephenson's and Shawn Marion's defense. Everything clicked for them last year and they ended with the 3rd best record in the west. All of their key players are in their 30s, and a compressed schedule could be tough on the outside shooting they rely on.

Optimistic predictions:

-With such an inexperienced team, Jefferson will be allowed to go to work down low and will make a serious case for finally making the All-Star team.

-Burks will play well enough to get over 20 minutes of playing time and will be rookie of the week more than a few times. He'll probably make the All-Rookie First team.

-Favors and Hayward will continue to show flashes of greatness, but will be more consistent.

-Kanter will struggle, but will have enough good moments that allow us to remain optimistic.

-Millsap will be good enough at SF when called to play there, but it's not the long term solution. He'll just be more versatile and a great example for the youngsters.

I really am torn, Utah does have the vets and since the season is 66 games, we might have a healthy Harris all season :) I think they could sneak into the playoffs. I do also agree trade memo to the rockets for a back up PG and wing

Well I a total Jazz homer so I voted 30-39 wins.

I'll add to your list:

* Kanter will rebound per 40 mins. as well as any rookie not named Faried.

* Burks and Hayward will push Miles into a bench-role and trade rumors by mid-season.

* Favors will have a few 25/15/4 break-out games.

* Kanter will have a couple 18/18 games and make people compare his offensive potential to Demarcus Cousins.

* The Jazz will sign a PG prospect that no one has ever heard of.

* The Pacers will offer us Danny Granger for one of our PFs, and we'll say no.

* Philadelphia will offer Evan Turner or Andre Iguodala for Al Jefferson because they don't dare to even mention Derrick Favors, and we'll say no.

* The Lakers will try to sign Dwight Howard and either Chris Paul or Deron Williams and will offer Bynum and super-star trade-bait Lamar Odom in trade scenarios. People will realize that the CBA doesn't really make the league more balanced.

* Dallas will try to sign Dwight Howard and either Chris Paul or Deron Williams and won't have enough to offer to make it happen.

* Blake Griffin will campaign to get Chris Paul or Deron Williams to the Clippers, and both will consider it strongly.

* New Jersey will realize it made one of the worst trades in the history of the NBA when D.Will can't get Dwight Howard to New Jersey and refuses to re-sign with the Nets.

* Orlando will amnesty Gilbert Arenas and make a desperate attempt to sign someone to make Dwight Howard happy, but will come up short.

The Kanter prediction is pretty bold. I can see him having a few games with 15+ points or 15+ rebounds, but I have a hard time seeing him getting both the same game. Hope you're right though.

Not seeing the 18 and 18 game for Kanter.

damn, it's nice to have something to talk about even though I'm filled with questions and apprehension for this squad. This is definitely and identity-building year, and I hope defense and rebounding are at the top of the coaches' list. I hope Watson comes back and there are at least two trades involving the likes of Jefferson, Harris, Bell, and Miles. Amnesty Okur.

I think we can make a run at .500 and the 8th spot.

I hate to be that guy, but we should play our youngsters big time this season and not worry about wins. If we only win 20 something games, we get a high draft pick in a very strong draft and the vets have less time to suffer in a shortened season. More experience for our youth movement and a high draft pick sounds great to me.

Agreed.

If you recall back to the 98-99 lockout shortened season, there were several teams that had new or younger talent (Kings, 76ers, Knicks, Pistons) and it took them much of the season to develop any kind of cohesiveness. They began to gel at the end of the season and then rode that momentum into the playoffs - where they used their youth and fresh legs to their advantage against the older, more veteran teams.

At this point the playoffs are a pipe dream, but after seeing Stockton and Malone's final shot a a ring go down in flames due to the previous lockout - I would definitely appreciate the irony if this year's Utah Jazz play the role of spoiler against some older, veteran teams in April.

The bottom half of the WC playoff picture doesn't look too daunting to me. I think a game or two over .500 might get a team into the playoffs, but there will probably be several teams packed around that winning %.

I voted 40-49. I can't help myself, i have a problem. You don't even want to know how much money this team cost me last season.

I think 30-36 is possible. Although, a few wins below that is likely. We'll get plenty of competitive and exciting matches though, no doubting that. Seeds for future growth will be planted.

20-29. They just don't have to gel and Ty hasn't had time to implement whatever system they're going to use. Still, I'll be happy as long as the rookies/2nd year guys look like they're going to succeed, and be ecstatic if Sap can learn to play the 3 effectively.

New question: How many games do you think Golden State will win this season? I'm thinking around 25, which is what I'm also expecting from the Jazz.

5-10 games under .500. It will be a tough year. Favors and Hayward are still too young to have a huge impact. Jefferson, Sap, and Harris- we know that they are going to make us respectable but at the same time its hard to win in the NBA without a bonafied star. Losing AK's size and defense will also be noticeable.

Who says we will lose AK ? It is possible but not yet clear i think, am i wrong?
