The Jazz are actually a fairly veteran team with Jefferson, Millsap, Miles and Harris. Plus Favors and Hayward should improve. I think we're at least a .500 team. Playing Favors and Kanter at PF over Millsap should solve the rebounding problem, and Hayward's shooting consistency and passing should help. The big question is actually whether Devin Harris can run this team and stay healthy, and whether Corbin can coach effectively. But with Jefferson, Favors and Kanter, we have a ton of post scoring and should get our share of rebounds. We'll have to see if the Millsap at SF experiment has any legs and if Jeremy Evans has any game outside of 3 feet from the hoop. I'm hoping Alec Burks can have a Wesley Matthews-like impact as a rookie.

I still see us being on par with teams like Portland in the 6 - 9-seed range in the west.

1 OKC
2 LAL
3 DAL
4 MEM
5 DEN
6 NO (depends on what happens with Chris Paul)
7 POR
8 SAS/UTA
9 UTA/SAS
10 HOU (they're a mess)
11 - 13 GS, LAC, PHX

I think you are underrating the Clippers..I think they can easily make the playoffs this year. Dallas, OKC, and the Lakers are definitely the top teams in the west...I don't think any of the other spots are guaranteed.

He did but the level of competition was not that good.

Level of competition was ok but he played with bunch of ball hogs ( aka Turkoglu) and only 8 games total. ( if you do not count friendlies). Kanter is miles behind all our big men when it comes to game experience and he will struggle badly. I would be very surprised if he gets more then 10 min a game this season.

When you haven't played competitively for nearly 2 years, I think it is imperative you get a lot of playing time. I'm not saying send him directly to the D-league. Give him a chance in the NBA. I'm going to predict he looks like a lost puppy out there, and is going to be overwhelmed by the athletic ability of the NBA. D-league seems like a perfect opportunity to gain confidence and in game experience (something he is severely lacking.).

Yea, I get that. The question was, what kind of coaching is he gonna get down there? Kanter is obviously not going to walk onto the court and dominate but I doubt he plays himself into a Fes scenario. Unless the D league team is literally a farm team for the Jazz running the exact same offense I think he's much better off getting just 12 MPG with his teammates and coaches here. I think you gotta take some lumps and hope he is tough enough to grit it out like Hayward did.

Anyways I think we need him. Okur is about as far from a sure thing as there is, and who else is going to play backup C?

Yeah, he played what, 5-10 games of Euro ball. The NBA is much different. The speed, size, and athletic ability is greater. Even if D-league basketball is poorer competition (I bet some of the D-league teams are better than some of the countries) it is a faster paced game with more athletes.

Not very good as in wins or playoffs. I could see us sliding in the bottom if a lot goes well.
I do think this short season will be a lot of fun regardless.

Udoh will be their x-factor. They need to him provide some D, because with Curry/Ellis/Lee they have an offensive power house. I suspect they will trade Ellis at some point for a front court player possibly.

They have almost no interior presence on either side of the floor, and Udoh doesn't really change that. David Lee has surprisingly little post game.

The only way Jazz win more then 33 games if they get AK back and if Okur is back to at least 85% of his old self. Otherwise 25 wins sounds about maximum they can squeeze. You need experience or superstar caliber young players to get above .500 and if AK and Okur is missing Jazz have what? Millsap, Jefferson, Haris, CJ and Bell- solid but no all-stars here... I get all excitement about our young players but none of them are superstar caliber ( in fact I would be very surprised if any of youngsters will average anything over a double digits baring injury to veterans). Thus you can't count on rookies and sophomores to produce at high level on daily basis. They will have odd 20+pts, 10+ reb games but thats about it. Throw in some back to back to backs which will happen on this short season, possibility of injuries and Jazz look like very average team.

Kanter is an upgrade from Okur, both in defense and interior offense.

The Clippers could be better than PHX, Houston and NOR depending on what happens there. Mo Williams is their PG and Vinny Del Negro is their coach. They'll probably be in the pack of teams chasing the playoffs along with GSW, but I'll be impressed if they get there.

New question: How many games do you think Golden State will win this season? I'm thinking around 25, which is what I'm also expecting from the Jazz.

Tough one to call. Curry is certainly on track to be one of the best shooters ever and Ellis can destroy teams with bad transition D. Lee has a phobia of the letter D but as we saw in our NY watching days can flat out score as well. I would guess it depends on the health of Biedrins. He is the only player on the team that can offer some resistance down low. He is only 25, seems like he has been around forever.

You're a bigger fan of Okur than I am.

Okur has scored 17 ppg in the NBA and did a very good job defending Yao Ming in key playoff games. Kanter hasn't played competitive basketball (consistently) in a long time. In the future he could easily become better than Okur. This season I still think Okur is the better player.

Veteran teams that have been together will have an advantage this season. Utah will have too many young and new faces to be able to be hugely successful given barely any training camp and shortened time to gel. I think they will be a good team, maybe have a winning or .500 season.

Okur averaging 17 ppg was 3 years ago. His lack of interior defense was overshadowed only by Boozer's. Yao was virtually the only player he could guard. He can rebound when he sets his mind to it. But his nickname was Slowkur before his injury. He could barely get up and down the floor the few games he played last year.

I'm higher on Kanter than this. Kanter can run the floor, move his feet on defense and score around the rim. I understand the apprehension surrounding Kanter at this stage, but he was a legit top lottery pick.

Until Kanter does anything, pretty much any NBA player is better than him. Some NBA stats > no NBA stats.

Same really goes for any college player. Until they do something in the NBA it is a wait and see situation.

I hope we see some good things from Kanter. I am not holding my breath.
