What's new

How has Obama improved your life in the last 4 years?

I find it funny that people cry about paying for roads. Then cry about the roads having potholes. Then cry about all the construction.

Or they could just build the roads correctly the first time.

There are roads in existence today, that have been in use for over a 1000 years.

You'd be lucky to see one of these modern roads withstand 5 years with no repair.

Have fun driving your car on those roads.

Increased weight, speed and frequency on the roads leads to faster wear. I am not saying the could not make the roads better than they currently are but 1,000 year old roads? Give me a break.

Did you forget TheSilencer1313 supports the cart standard (Anything heavier than a horse cart is a bad foundation for transporation, and any item that a horse can't cart is too big to be used well by industry)?

During the Utah County construction I only cried about it being absurd they were spending millions and millions on the freeways before putting a commuter train that ran from Provo and connected to Trax in Draper. With stops in areas like Orem, PG, AF, and Lehi.

Why spend money to fit more cars on the road, when you could spend the exact same money on getting cars off the road?

Where are these 1000 year old roads? Can a F-350 towing a boat doing 80 mph navigate them?

And yes they (the gov't or gov't contractors) can build better roads---if someone is willing to pay the added expense. Quality costs. UDOT has been installing more concrete roads over the past several years because the installation costs of concrete are only slightly more than the installed cost of asphalt. But the life of a concrete road is 4x longer than asphalt and needs less maintenance. Of course then all the people complain because a concrete road is louder than asphalt.

I thought it was the taxes that I pay on gas and transportation that fixes roads. What does this have anything to do with Obama? I don't recall ant presidential order declaring that the feds should fix roads in E. St. Louis.

So are you saying that Obama's spending had NOTHING to do with putting people to work rebuilding infrastructure? I LOLed when you said he didn't give specific orders for E. St. Louis, cuz obviously the absence of a specific order means zero involvement.

Obama's road plan just bumped a bunch of projects that were already scheudled up on the schedule. The moneys used to pay for teh 'shovel ready' projects was 'borrowed' from future budgets. Basically he took all transportation funding for several years to hurry and make everyone look busy now. The timing was actually great for pricing, but imo really bad for quality control and review, of course nobody cares about that until the road fails, and he should be out of office by then. Anyway, now the transportation budgets are largely shot and construction will drop off dramatically unless Obama or whoever the next guy is, continues 'borrowing' money from future budgets to pay for current projects. Welcome to the third world America.

Fuel consumption has been in a 7 year downward trend while our fleet #'s have been in a multi-decade uptrend. Both parties are against paying to build bigger ****ing roads & sell that as a tax on the poor. We have to accomodate each other one way or another, so let's all put our money where our mouths are by supporting higher gas taxes. Let me get a Scat is for higher gas taxes to pay for highways hell yeah!

After all, a gas tax is the purest tax, no?

And continue borrowing they will. I don't see the government flinching when it comes to piling up the debt. Either side will continue borrowing, no matter who is elected. You can't just leave the roads unattended. Our economy would really fall apart. Our road system is a big reason why we even have a high tech economy. It's just part of the budget they can't even think about cutting.

If Obama would have invested in this type of smart infrastructure I would have been happy.

I have three family members who currently have no health insurance; one of which is now paying off a $50,000 healthcare bill. Another, sister, who hasn't been to the Dr. for a checkup (including routine gynecological services) in decades. I don't think she's ever had a pap smear or breast exam. I personally am very grateful that they will soon have full access to the healthcare system, unless Romney's elected or the Republican's seize control of Congress.

Ironically, all three are tea baggers who hate Obamacare and want to repeal it. They see the individual mandate as the worst assault on individual freedom since . . . well, just about ever. All three also support the Patriot Act and torture as State policy 100%.
