Nah he didn't come 1 year too early. He got selected at #4. If someone wants you at #4, you've done everything right.
From his perspective yeah. Of course you come out if you're ranked that high. Strike whilst the iron is hot.
From the perspective of the NBA. His game would be much better with a year of college and I think he would have developed leadership skills that he just won't this year in the NBA.

I also think having competent teammates and a solid situation will be helpful. The Jazz are finally starting to gel as a roster. There will be some changes, but we are largely set with the group that we are going to roll with. Being able to grow with the same guys will help him develop his game better than if he were in a situation like Philly or even the Lakers where there is going to be almost complete turnover in the next few years. Roster stability is certainly helpful for assimilating rookies into San Antonio's system. Exum looks like he has already developed some on-court chemistry with Gobert. It will be nice to see him practice and get reps with the meat of the Jazz roster.
And the ****ty thing for the Jazz is that drafting someone that young who has potential might just mean we used a high draft pick to develop a guy who never significantly contributes and ends up bouncing as soon as he's worth a damn.

No man, if he is good, we just sign him as a restricted free agent. We have him for at least seven years. And even then, we can still pay him more than any other team. If we are winning at that point, there is no reason for him to leave.

Can't argue with you there. Exum is in a terrific situation with an organization being built on player development. And a team that doesn't have to throw him in immediately. He can get 15/per as a backup.

That would have been the case with Embiid, Gordon, Vonleh and a few others. That's just the way the draft is nowadays unless you go for the older players who are seen as having much lower ceilings.
Ummm, unless it takes him 8 years to develop then no. You know that all 1st round rookies are given guaranteed contracts that result in them being a RFA at the 4 year contract?
Yeah, if you want to keep a player you draft, you can usually have him for 7-8 years.

Anyone that is saying that they are disappointed with the way he has played, I have to ask you, what did you expect?? I don't ask this saying that he was a bad choice (although I think that there was one or two players I would have taken before him). I ask this because he is an 18 year old kid going straight to the NBA. HE IS 18 YEARS OLD!!! Of course he is going to be riddled with mistakes and bad choices right now. That is expected and that is what he needs to do to develop skills, IQ and most importantly confidence!! He is a kid in the NBA surrounded by 11 guys on the court that can play and that are comfortable on the court. He is figuring things out and in this stage (hasn't played a single regular season game yet) the more mistakes he makes his first year the better. Lets get it out of the way over this next year or two so that he can build the skills and learn from his mistakes so that he can be an elite point guard.
Anyone who was expecting him to come in and light up the floor is either a new basketball fan in which I say "welcome" or...... an idiot. Being an 18 year old kid in the NBA with the pressure of being a great point guard in the NBA, is a lot to take on. Everything he sees at this stage in his career means something. Including the coaching staff, chemistry with teammates, support from management and fan support is important to him right now. Especially when he is searching for the confidence he needs to go to the next level. If you think that because he is in the NBA that comments from nobody's like people posting on this site (myself included) goes unheard of or don't mean anything to a him, your dead wrong.
The facts are
He's 18
He's trying to balance the pressure of being an 18 year old with very high expectations making it in the NBA,
trying to celebrate the fact that he is on his way to reaching his dream hes worked hard for,
earning fan respect and support,
earning player respect and support,
earning team respect and support,
maintaining family respect and support,
playing well with minimal mistakes,
excelling past his expectations to try and make it in the NBA, etc etc etc etc.......
Don't you think as calling yourself a JAZZFAN that you have a responsibility to show him some support and making him feel welcome over the next year or two while he develops his skills and confidence thats needed to make it as a kid in the NBA?? With him being as young as he is in the NBA we all should be giving him the benefit of the doubt and supporting him not slandering him. HE'S A KID, QUIT TAKING CANDY FROM THE BABY!!!!!!!
