How is fracking legal?

The vibe I'm getting (other than reaction to the circus that usually accompanies the OP's posts) is that so long as it's NIMBY, fracking's okay.

Because it creates temporary jobs that makes politicians look good in the short-run for reelections.

When it comes to fracking, it has its pros and cons. Using natural gas sourced from fracking has a lesser impact on global warming (even with the leakage caused by extraction) compared with coal. The problem is, as we use less coal, we start exporting it.

The real issues is disposal of the fracking wastewater. Injecting it back into the Earth is what is causing Earthquakes, but this is the cheapest way to dispose of it, although better alternatives (albeit more expensive) exist.

We are seeing a natural progression to renewable energy, including harnessing the oceans power using sea floor turbines (a technology in its infancy).

Solar is great, but has limitations with our current grid.
