How was Kanter's performance in Eurobasket?

i voted for he is good as i expected, because i was already high on Enes and i am happy with what i saw so far. He will be fine in time after getting rid of some small flaws and learn those small details in the game to make him a better player. However, i wasn't very impressed by his performance even though he did a very good job considering it was his first serious experience and professional tourney after 2 years.

Good as expected, though I think it will be a real mistake to throw him into the fire too quickly in the NBA. A first year like Favors's where we see modest but consistent minutes, with flashes of brilliance and a clear sense that he's making improvement on his all-around game would entirely satisfy me.

Here's what I like:
strength
aggressiveness/ability to draw fouls
motor (for the most part, though it can improve a bit)
patience and confidence in his moves
rebounding (though seems to suffer when playing PF)
effort on defense
nose for the ball

I think he needs to work on:
court awareness (both offense and defense) -- especially ability to let teammates make game easier/more efficient offensively
defensive strategy (seems completely incapable now of responding to NBA-level fakes, for example)
passing (almost never passes out of low block, and then only simple passes; never passes quickly)
ability to be an offensive threat at multiple speeds (too deliberate too often)
ability to be effective in multiple places in half-court offense
counters when first move taken away
ability to recognize and take advantage of baseline move from left low block
scoring with left hand

One more thing I like: as I watch more and more, it just feels like every time he shoots, the ball SHOULD be going in the hoop. If that can carry to the NBA level, then I think we'll at least have a very good starter eventually.

I'm not sure what you mean by your first point here, but the only player who cared to try to make the game easier/more efficient was Emir Preldzic. The other perimeter players were just looking to score as inefficiently as possible. On the second point, I think we saw quite a bit of progress from Kanter with his passing. Against Germany he made three very nice passes out of the post, two of which led directly to wide open three-pointers (with Tunceri hitting one of two), with the third being swung around for another.

Yeah, I'm hoping that it was simply a case that no other players were really looking out for the team. Hard to tell at this point what his ability is here, but I guess we'll find out when the NBA starts. On passing, I agree there was improvement; I also think he has a long way to go. But again seeing him in the Jazz system will tell us more.

People might get mad at me for saying this, but I see some Boozer in his offensive game (not quite as explosive yet, and doesn't have the left hand) I guess its just his shot that reminds me of Boozer's shot (But I only watched highlights, not games. So I'm not that credible)

I'm real impressed with his shot. I didn't expect him to be that good of a shooter.

I voted "better than expected" because I didn't expect much, not after missing an entire year of basketball and beijng so young. That said, I think he'll have minimal impact for the Jazz in Year 1. I still expect him to average 10-15 mins/per. It generally takes bigs longer to develop their games and the Jazz have 3, perhaps 4 (if Okur is healthy) players already to rotate at the 4/5. Burks will have a better rookie season.

I'll admit I was not a huge fan prior to the draft. With Favors, Jefferson and Miilsap, the Jazz appeared set at PF/C. I was thinking more along the lines of PG/SF. But I've since warmed up to the pick and I know why KOC drafted the way he did. If Enes and Favors develop into all-star type players, teams will have a very hard time matching up inside.

I think you should have had "he was better than I expected" listed second, not third. Anyway, that's what I voted. I don't want to say I didn't expect much because he just played those other games in late August and looked good and he wasn't now playing all-NBA talent but still, my hopes were tempered. Yet he surpassed them. He was very solid overall considering his age, lack of game exposure over the last couple years, and God awful coaching. Cumulatively, that counts for a lot and we could be seeing a very, very good player in 2-4 years.

Boozer was a pick and roll player, nearly all baskets assisted. Kanter did not run one pick and roll in the tournament. I'm really perplexed by the comparison.

I agree with that, and I doubted his ability for a #3 pick, but I won't get too excited until he does it in the big leagues. But a lot of things I saw should translate well into the NBA.

in this draft being a #3rd pick doesn't guarantee he will even be as good as Tyrus Thomas, but he apparently is , so its a pretty good choice at 3.

Considering the poor team play and the terrible coach, he looked pretty good to me. Going to be a 20 point scorer in the NBA eventually in my opinion. But he isn't as tall as I expected and doesn't have great hops so he's going to have to learn how to play D like Malone did, with his body and hands. He's got the same type of body and could become just as strong.
