here's to hoping he is half the player that he seems to be off the court now, and to hoping its not all talk but that he is really going to be 150% dedicated to this team. he may be 30, but he still has alot to bring to this team. do i think he is our PG of the future? no, not even a little. but i feel l ike he is really going to help us get the job done, he will be a good transition pg to our pg of the future, and he will be very good for the young tallent we have curentally. after all he has played with some of the best. Any thoughts? do you all think he is what utah needs?

No, what Utah needs is a young, pass first, D playing 3 shooting PG that can grow with the team.

having said that, I think Mo is clearly an upgrade for the Jazz over Harris. (not saying Mo is/is not a better player but he is better for the Jazz)

Like Stoked said, Mo is better for the Jazz than Harris. The Jazz need a young PG but don't have one yet. It is what it is.

I like the idea of having a team grow together. but i also thinks it’s nice to have a little more experience at the pg position to help the bigs develop. then when they are where they need to be, we can throw a new pg in the mix and the bigs can help him... just a thought.... i think mo is really good for our team now though.

It is good to have experience at the PG position. The only problem is that all of the PGs on the Jazz are experienced. There's no long-term PG of the future on the roster.

its true. and i guess there in lies the problem.. unless half of this boards dreams come true and burks can play it... but i jsut dont feel that.

Although I agree, I feel like I need to remind everyone that if the Dwill situation has taught us anything it's that we're not going to get another John Stockton.

We just aren't. They just don't exist anymore.

So lets just ask ourselves "What can we survive with?"

I'm not expecting one. But the question is what do the Jazz need and that is the right answer. The Jazz need a pass first, D playing 3 shooting PG.

I think they can survive with Mo as long as other wings step up and help witht eh perimiter game.

Agree. But Mo still has some tread left. Watson and Tinsley already have their AARP cards.
I expect the Jazz will get a younger PG by next summer, either by trading an expiring, using one of the first-round picks, or using available cap space to go out and sign a FA. I'd hope for a Stockton-like situation: i.e., a young prospect who can learn for 1-2 years before taking over.

It's true that Mo has a few good years left. BTW, are you going to change your name to MoTown5?

Don't know if Burks can ever be the point guard we are looking for, but I was the first to hope/dream about him being a point guard. Nice to have some company at least.

The only true point guard on the team is Tinsley, but no matter how well he played in camp, he's running on fumes and is an emergency backup at best. I think it's funny how the coaches are trying Burks out at the point guard. (wishfull thinking? probably) If Burks actually becomes a combo guard, that would be awesome, but I heard on the play by play last night that Burks had the lowest assist level of all 2 guards last year. A point guard? With that on his head? Wow, not likely. Actually, I kind of like having Burks and Foye come off the bench together. Neither of them are truly pass first, but both of them can handle the ball and start the offence, but in order for it to work Burks is going to have to learn to assist naturally and automatically, neither of which he has done to this point.

No, I think it's because our back-ups aren't healthy enough to play/ had a personal reason for absence. Who are you going to give all PG minutes too? Chris Quinn, the guy who won't be on the team at the start of the season?

You might as well give the minutes to Burks.

It's not funny, it's smart, just like the Jazz running preseason halfcourt sets through Jefferson in the high post. The only way they're possibly going to learn is by trying it against live competition, but shooting yourself in the foot in games that count is probably not the best strategy for a coach/team that expects to make the playoffs. It doesn't look like either experiment is going to work out this preseason (granted, it's still early), but Burks still has 3 seasons left on his rookie contract.
