We sucked it at draft time. We need to redeem at FA time or we can't do the playoffs. I'm sorry guys. It's true.

Organic growth will probably get us to the playoffs, fighting for the 8th seed, maybe 7th depending on how things shake out in the wild west. Adding a solid upgrade and/or backup through free agency/trade could push us to 5-6th, maybe higher. I hope we have our sights set on higher.

I don't think the Jazz needed to do ANYTHING at draft time to make the playoffs. They have a good and improving team and finished strong. I don't see any immediate help coming from their picks. IMO, Lyles is a liability until he develops an outside shot.

So I agree Utah needs to do something in free agency; namely find a true center to play behind Rudy and address that elephant in the room: Trey Burke. Jazz NEED to have a better PG rotation.

Utah is already a playoff team, regardless of what happens. If you're getting your hopes up for free agency, I wouldn't hold your breath.

Jazz still have no answer for a wing that can iso and no backup center. I'm also still skeptical of the spacing (I'm warming to Lyles, but he doesn't address a single one of these). Hopefully Carroll and Tomic are the answers for the time being.

Rudy is going to buff up like Alonzo Mourning.
Dante Exum is going to look 3 years older.
Olivier Hanlan is going to push Trey out of the rotation.
Burks will wreak havoc.

The Jazz will win 49 games.

Do not get the discouragement if Jazz do not sign all star to make playoffs. They are youngest team and just get younger. There is time still for them.

I hope you are right and we can make!!

Dennis Lindsey's free agency list. . .

1.) Sign DeMarre Carroll. Whoops. That was stupid t let him go to Atlanta.

2.) Buyout Ante Tomic. We still need a backup center AND signing Tomic will piss half of the fans off.

I would argue Alec Burks can do the wing Isolation, I mean he never gets them at the top of the key with a full time clock but in the situations where he's had to iso and make a play he looks pretty damn good. Also when he drives it's clean and fluid, makes it seem like it's easier for Favors/Gobert to O-Rebounds. I would agree we're in trouble at the back up C position though.

Jazz can find some back up center to play 15 minutes. I would not be surprised if the Jazz make a trade especially if Harlan/Cotton can replace Burke.

Jazz have great chemistry on this team, the Jazz need to be careful they don't destroy that. I think just the improvement alone on this team will push us to be a playoff team. Having Alex back is going to be huge and I think Lyles can contribute this year. Jazz were learning their system last year, they started slow and struggle but after all-star break they had one of the better records. Many of those losses were close so it showed me this team isn't that far from competing in the playoffs.

I would be fine with bring back Booker, Ingles and getting a back up center. Go with this team and see how they do in a full season. Then make adjustments accordingly.

He actually means defensively. I think he's over stating that need. With 2 big guys that are good at help defense and length across the board I think the Jazz can use team concepts to defend those types of players. I also think that Hayward is pretty damn good against those kinds of players and Exum and Hood could be with a little more strength and experience.

The Utah Jazz will extend G/F Joe Ingles a qualifying offer, making him a restricted free agent, The Salt Lake Tribune has learned

Nice... I hope we can keep him at a reasonable salary.
