What's new

I hope none of us die today.

My father in law was born on April 1st. He had hard time convincing people on that day that it is his real birthday.

Your grandpa probably had the hardest time believing it was his child instead of a prank.

well, since he was born in former USSR in 1947 they were disciplined to believe everything authorities said. I bet he accept it ( hospital information about date of birth) without single doubt crossing his mind;)

FYI he is big believer in bible now and started going to church in last 5 years or so. We had heated discussions over it almost like here. So funny how former communist party officer turned so religious. I guess old age and dementia is kicking it.

Such a respectful grandson.

To be honest he is a bit of an ***. And I am not his grandson. It is my father in law. So no blood relationship whatsoever.
And it is my logical thinking showing. I try to understand reason why former atheist and communist turned into religious maniac. Most reasonable explanation is brain aging and losing common sense.

Her atheist parents were surprised when their three-year-old began to describe dreams and visions from God. This inexplicable direction in their daughter’s life, combined with a remarkable talent in art and poetry, inspired her family to re-examine their own lives.

“My life began in an unusual way,” says Akiane Kramarik, 17, who spent her early years in rural Illinois. By unusual, she refers to her underwater birth in “a shack” on the edge of a cornfield. “Our family had no money, no friends, no relatives, no television or radio. Our life was quite simple — long walks in nature, open conversations, and hands on explorations of knowledge,” she says.

Her mother, Forelli, is a Lithuanian immigrant educator. Akiane’s father, Mark, is a chef from Chicago with a Catholic background. In her early family life, there was no prayer, no discussions of God, and no visits to church. Yet in the insular atheistic environment her parents created – free from media influences or even outside babysitters – Akiane suddenly began to talk about God.

She spoke of colorful dreams and visions about heaven, Jesus, and God’s amazing love. Her stunned parents realized her intense focus on God could not have come have been inspired by anything in the world they created for her. Indeed, Akiane seemed to be having supernatural encounters with the living God.

Some of the best music in the world was created by musicians under the influence of drugs/alcohol, etc. Lots of famous artists were .. what's the proper word - mentally unstable?
No doubt kid was talented. God? Give me a break. All this "god vision and other sham" was well calculated to extract as much money as possible.

Conversion from atheism to Christianity is either dementia or a sham? Anything else?

"So, confronted by all these facts and arguments – philosophical, scientific, and historical – I surrendered my sword of unbelief to God, and asked Jesus to forgive my sins and come into my life during the hot, dry summer of 1976."

None of "these facts or arguments" he speaks here is anywhere close to being scientific or historical to be honest. He got confronted by myths. I am stronger than that.

We will add weakness to the list. Anything else?

You missing my point here. Kid had talent. ( by the way her mothers paintings are very, very similar to her). Parents saw opportunity to benefit financially from it and went with " God visions, converting to Christianity and other crap" story as they knew it will sell in country like USA. Very simple logical explanation for it.
