" At his two-month pediatric check up, the boy's doctor agreed that his vision was somehow impaired and referred him to a pediatric ophthalmologist at Primary Children's Medical Center. It treats six to 10 retinoblastoma patients a year."Derek Fisher's daughter was 10 months old and had been dealing with the new found fatal cancer for 2 months. As I understand it there were 2 doctors in the entire U.S. that had experience (not just specialized) dealing with the form of rare cancer that his 10 MONTH OLD BABY DAUGHTER had. One was in New York, and on was in L.A. How can anyone condem him for leaving the Jazz? Do you think the Jazz released him from his contract just solely based on his word? I would guess that there had do be doctors medical records for his daughter based on a release of an NBA contract. I dont have proof, I'm just stating the obvious because Im not a neanderthal banging around 2 rocks as my proof for everything like the damn primates on this website that still think he screwed us. Do any of you that think he was out to screw us; have kids? Did you see the CNN special about his daughters cancer in her eye? Thats what I thought.

In other words, there was the expertise in Utah to manage his daughter's disease.

I'm still elated that he left early--and that he (and the Jazz) could use his daughter as an excuse to do so. But he didn't need to move--even to obtain better access to the top treatment in the country (L.A. or N.Y.) rather than high-quality treatment in SLC. If I were him, I'd want the top ophthalmologist (probably at Sloan-Kettering in New York) to do it, but after that, follow-up can be done anywhere.
And it was. In L.A.
