I Still Support Hayward

If Hayward is back to his old % numbers, it's because he's not shooting as much and I see him getting 14-16 points a game add in 5 rebounds and 5-7 assists with 1.5 stills and solid defense. I can see him making an Allstar game or two. Hayward isn't a 20 point a game scorer. If he was he'd be a top offensive option. That he isn't, but he doesn't need to be.

Let me just say that Stockton and Malone couldn't get out of the west till Horny got there, and Hayward can be that guy. That's why it's critical to resign him. He helps put us over the top.

https://saltcityhoops.com/why-our-gordon-hayward-comps-are-all-wrong/

Salt city wrote a decent piece for those who are scared.

This article explains the reason we (I) see him impacting the game, but unable to say why. In the Houston game at home last year, I was able to sit 4th row and it was clear the game changed each time G went in and out. (he was subbed directly with Harden) and it was clear that G's impact was favorable. This is the same (in concept, not magnitude) as when Stockton would sit... Howard Eisley made that problem bearable, but it was such an amazing change. Stock would have "only" 15 pts and 10 assists and the impact to the game was still significant.
.
There is no doubt, even as a Hayward fan, that he's not a 'max player' and I don't think anyone is saying he is. Rather, he is under valued by many fans.
.
The whole "Jazz will match anything" tactic is really a "you might have him for the max, but otherwise you are wasting your time" tactic.

I didn't but your statement had a sense of absoluteness to it. Would you let him walk at 4 years, 60M?

First let me say I'm glad I don't have to face these tough choices like DL. I'd be lying if I said yes or no, but as it is I don't know. The way I see it if things go well and guys like Exum, and one of Burks or Kanter develop, then it's anyone's bet, but if there is little to no development then no. Hayward isn't worth it

There is just too many what ifs to say for sure. This is why I'm glad I'm not DL.

He out plays a 8mil contract all day long. Many people just don't really understand the value of good players and how the NBA really works? The salary cap went up almost 5mil just this year. With the new TV deal the NBA estimates cap could go up to the 90-100mil range. With that 13 to 15mil you pay Hayward is nothing.

Trust me, when I say that most of us know who's who around here, and who knows their ****.

For some reason, your name doesn't ring a bell.

Need to keep Hayward as either a player moving forward or a tradable asset!!!

We wouldn't be able to trade him if he's on a max contract. At that point he's not an asset, he's a burden. I like Hayward, and would be willing to "overpay" a tad for him, I suppose, but I wouldn't touch him on a max contract.

Derozan could be good. VERY good. I really like his improvement year over year.
Gordo's game was more polished than DeRozan's coming into the league. Easily. DeRozan seems to compete harder than Gordo, and actually comes back after every offseason having added something to his game and ready to play from day 1.

That team is scary; filled with hyper-competitive players. They'll have cap space next summer, and really only need to add a competent wing to round out the roster. Unfortunately, the best available options are restricted free agents: Klay Thompson, Jimmy Butler, Kawhi Leonard.

Jonas/Amir/Ross/DeRozan/Lowry...gritty. Hansbrough, Patrick Patterson and Greivis Vasquez give them tremendous guard and big man depth. Just need another take-no-prisoners wing, and that team is a potential contender. Fun as hell to watch, too.
