I Still Support Hayward

This article explains the reason we (I) see him impacting the game, but unable to say why. In the Houston game at home last year, I was able to sit 4th row and it was clear the game changed each time G went in and out. (he was subbed directly with Harden) and it was clear that G's impact was favorable. This is the same (in concept, not magnitude) as when Stockton would sit... Howard Eisley made that problem bearable, but it was such an amazing change. Stock would have "only" 15 pts and 10 assists and the impact to the game was still significant.
I just don't see it. He was slow/lazy rotating and closing out on shooters this past season, and he can be beat off the bounce by quick or physical wings (can also be posted up by physical wings). On the other end, he doesn't bend the defense; he gets played straight up. His pull-up game improved toward the end of the season, but I'm not convinced it's effective enough to leverage defenses (yet?).

Gordo's a smart player; makes quick reads, generally makes the right play. But good teams will have at least a couple better on-ball players, rendering Gordo's extras of little value.

Keep in mind, part of the reason Gordo is making a noticeable impact is because the best on-ball perimeter player the Jazz have had since Deron left is Devin Harris.

Here's a useful article that compared Hayward to Parsons, Thompson, Leonard and Burks.

Interestingly, in his recent podcast, Locke said that very few in the league consider Parsons to be Hayward's equal. I know I quote Locke a lot, but he has insights and inside info that you simply can't find on this board.
He's also a company man to the end. His arguments frequently lack internal consistency, and always support the decisions management makes.

Let me just say that Stockton and Malone couldn't get out of the west till Horny got there, and Hayward can be that guy. That's why it's critical to resign him. He helps put us over the top.
Hornacek made like 1/8 of the cap when he played for Utah. He was also a much better shooter and scorer than Gordo.

I hope we keep Hayward at a reasonable rate. I could support 12 mil if it fit with the plan, and I would have to assume it did if they sign him for that. Even if they sign him for more, at some point we either support the FO or simply rebel, in which case we might as well move over to Spurs Talk or whatever and start posting about the repeat.

I respect the Hayward fans. We've had many players I've liked that had to go too.

It's time to move on. He's not a cornerstone, but wants to be paid like one.

He's a little kid who spends too much time on video games. We only should pay the max to men.

Man, why the hate on Hayward. He is just trying to get all he can from probably the best contract of his career.

Wouldn't we all do the same. Favors wimped out so he is better ? Favors would be getting a Max somewhere if he waited.

I do not think Hayward will get a Max this year, I think all those articles are via his agent.

He still will get 12/13 a year from Jazz which is still overpaying but good for him.

Now, I would like to see him be aggressive on the floor as he is with his :)

Unfortunately for Hayward , he is a #2 or #3, We really do not have a #1 and even Locke thinks we are 3 years from playoffs.

Locke made an interesting comment yesterday implying Hayward took it easy last month or so so he did not get hurt....
Just his guess, he said he did not know.
