If Favors is never the same Favors again...

Can someone name a player who had any kind of recurring injury, that wasnt the result of major surgery, that had their career completely ruined because of it?

Would anyone be down to role the dice and extend him for less due to injury risk with the possibility that he may have a few years without injury. Not sure if a team like the Jazz could take that risk I'm sure DL is considering all options at this point.

For sure. If he wants to give a decent size discount then i would definitely want the jazz to take the risk.

I don't think Favors will be extended. We need to extend Hill and don't have room for both. I do believe he will be re-signed in Utah, once his contract expires after next season. By then, we'll have a better idea of how much he can stay healthy.

Yeah, I don't get the panic of some fans with Favors. It's not like he's torn both ACLs along with the Achilles or something... Both of his injuries are relatively minor ones, although debilitating while they last. I don't know why we should assume his health long-term is in question.

With that said, I want to see him slim down a bit. Big bodies don't stay healthy in the league. Too much wear and tear. Even LeBron slimmed down to extend his career. There is no reason he should be 270 in nowadays game. I think he'd be awesome and even quicker and more athletic at 250-255.

Favors will be back and he will be back to his level of play or better.

If for some odd reason he is not this team should not be looking at next years draft to fill his spot. Rookies do not help teams win. A 19 year does not fit with this team unless we land someone with superstar potential we should be looking at a trade or a FA to fill his spot. Someone that fits with the rest of the team and their timeline. A rookie might be okay to fill out the roster and play some spot minutes but not much more on a winning team.

Here's a thought... It doesn't directly involve Favors, but it would affect him.

Jazz Trade: Alec Burks and Jeff Withey

Philadelphia Trades: Nerlens Noel and Ersan Ilyasova

Why the sixers do it?

76ers get space for Okafor (who they prefer to Noel) and Embid with a cheap, decent backup (Withey). They pick up a really quality piece on a great contract who has been injured plenty... for what? A player who they may waive and a 1 year rental on a spot they are overloaded at. They haven't been playing Ersan much at all. 76ers get something for very little risk. They are swapping a crowded position and a player they don't plan to resign for an affordable asset who is risky due to injuries. They can afford to take a swing on Burks who if healthy may be their best player in 2017.

Why the Jazz do it?

Jazz rent Noel, clear cap space to be able to resign Hayward and Hill next year, and don't drop off defense while Favors is hurt. Favors becomes more expendable if we resign Noel instead of Favors. Favors has pressure to get healthy and perform. Ersan is a vet, helps us stretch the floor, and better now off the bench than Burks has been all season. We are basically moving on from the off injured Burks for financial flexibility, additional depth now for 2016, and flexiblity regarding Favor's situation. At the least having Noel is a bargaining chip in extending Favors.

Also we have this guy named Trey Lyles.

Lyles is better than G-Time at this point in his career. Gordo never would have had a game like Lyles had Friday night his second year - he would have missed a couple shots early and melted the rest of the game.

I'm the original Favors lover on this board - loved him since he was in HS. But I think he's gone when his contract is up. Especially if The Jazz find a way to re-up both GH and GH after this season.

Uhhh Hayward had a 32 point game his rookie.

I have no idea how the cap works. But can the Jazz go into the tax by resigning an UFA that was on the team the previous season? Can't we resign Favs and go into the LT in 2018?

If so, if he has a healthy season and we're in contention, couldn't the argument be made to the Millers that now is the time to enter the LT and go for it?

If so, why not cross that bridge when we get there and get Hill signed up now?

I was listening to a podcast earlier today and they were talking about Brooklyn's plan. Basically Brooklyn is going to throw maxes at every RFA player they can, so expect Exum and/or Hood to receive max contracts from Brooklyn.
