What's new

If I'm Favors/Hayward ... I do not sign an extension

If I'm the Jazz, I'm aiming for a contract between 10-12 mil. If the ******* denies, then we will have to wait until he's an RFA, and see what we get

Ok, dalamon, then you and I are saying the same thing. I guess you don't know anything about basketball either.

I think the 10 mil number for Hayward is likely. Favors is going to get a bigger deal 12-14 mil. It is just the marketplace value for good young players. If we can get them at a reduced rate that is even better.

If that is the salary they demand, then let them both walk. Geez, could we please wait and see what we have before committing another AK blunder?

they are below 24

no isnt time for them to only look at joining contenders

they will focus on money for now

i worry about hayward though because of his babe in indiana

if im favors i deny that

6'11 borderline scrubs are getting at least 8 mil per year, at least 10 if you can do anything that resembles being able to play basketball

if favors was fa now, he would get at least 12 mil per year offer

I would come out with 13 per year, slighly less than what big al got from bobcats

He talks about the Jazz not shelling out money for players, then he talks about the Jazz jumping the gun and overpaying players which would restrict their ability to pay player who deserve it, then he says that building through the draft isn't possible, but he ignores Indiana, Memphis, SA, OKC, Chicago who ALL DID EXACTLY THAT.

.

I talked about shelling money for the right players and not overpaying somebody like AK or Ostertag and then cheaping out on the rest.No contradiction on that point.

Regarding the building through the draft thing, OKC and Sanantone are the only true contenders or champions on that list and they drafted a Duncan and Durant. Do we have any Duncans and Durants amidst our lotto picks? Or even a Rose?

Almost every champion in the last several years have built through FAs and trades and not relied on just drafts to get all their players. If you are talking about a plan to trade some of your lotto picks to get a good vet then thats a different issue. If you think you can develop 3 or 4 lotto picks simulatenously and pay them all the market value and retain them to be a contender, I just dont see that happening with Utah(or for that matter with most teams). Even Thunder couldnt hold onto Harden.
If the Jazz do manage to keep 3 of their lotto picks by paying them market value then they wouldnt have money to get good impact players to surround these three and these days even Lebron needs some good veteran help to win rings.

Even Thunder couldnt hold onto Harden.

"couldn't" and "didn't" are sometimes very different things (such as this case). If they didn't overvalue Perkins then they could've kept Harden without going into the LT. At least for a few years. OKC was hitting homeruns for a few years but have really sucked in the last year from a managerial standpoint.

Except that Asik is underpaid...

Hindsight is 20/20. People though Asik's contract was pretty big, seeing as he was averaging 3.1 PPG and 5.3 RPG in 14.7 minutes of playing time in his last season in Chicago. It was a gamble, but it paid off

Real smart people in this thread... glad DL is the GM, and not Jazzfanz sometimes. Do you guys really think ANYONE would offer a max contract to Derrick Favors at this point? Because if you are advocating extending him in the 12-14 mil per year range, then that is a max contract. Favors is not a max player, and he may never be. For example, Kevin Love's extension started at 12 mil and he got raises from there. Do you guys think that Kevin Love pre extension and Derrick Favors are in the same ballpark? Love was an all star, and leading the league in rebounding. If Favors got minutes last year, he could have led the league in fouls!

I am a huge Favors homer, but at this point, he is NOT a max player. If we extend him starting at 12 million per year, then we are labeling him our max guy, and hamstringing ourselves under the hope that he becomes Karl Malone JR. A reasonable extension for Favors at this point is a little more than what Asik got paid, probably no more than 10mil per year to start.

I would give Favors 5 years $50 million, and Hayward 5 years $45 million yesterday.
