Come on dude this is a message board. Throw out what you would be willing pay for him.I can't because I have no idea what Minnesota would want to save. How much $$$ would they be mandated to cut. I have no idea.

That's not how trades work. If Minny trades KAT it's because they have to. Whenever you make a trade under those circumstances, you arent going to get the best offers.Unless you think Towns is in a drastically different place than Rudy or Don when we traded them (you could argue Don was much higher, but Rudy was close and actually got a similar//better package than Don), there really shouldn't be any mystery as to what the cost would be. We have two great ballpark examples.
I don't think a better player than Towns will become available that is also under long term deal, it's the best we'll get so if we are truly looking for a star he is probably the best guy we can go for. I don't have any concerns about a fit with Lauri, I do have concerns with his health and still some lingering concerns about his mentality....but I think he has matured some. If the franchise wants to get a lot better real soon, I think Towns is the best it will get.
I'm not sure paying the fair price is better than the tank route....with or without Lauri. If MIN is in a situation where Towns will be traded on a discount I think that is the more appealing option, but I think there will be a bidding war and Towns will yield a package that he's worth.

Roster construction has a lot to do with this. KAT is very efficient, but Ant needs the ball and has become their number. And Gobert and KAT together has been a mixed bag.Minnesota wasn't significantly worse when KAT was out with injury this year, which should tell you enough about his impact on winning.
Well saidSituation in Minny may become tricky.
If they make a run this year, they may consider to keep the same core and add one or two players to improve the team. They will probably trade Slomo.
But if they failed at first round, with the ownership battle where Lore and Rodriguez clearly stated that they do not want to pay the luxury taxes, they will not have much choice than trade KAT or another big salary. If it's the case, they may struggle to get the return they expect.
Yes and no. We are further away obviously so would realize bigger gains from having him than they would (well that would be the theory). So, the whole premise of this thread is that KAT will fail at being a good second option for Minnesota. And then the Jazz will swoop in and make him the first option in Utah, with much worse role players to support him. And that is the way to the successful rebuild.
Again, the Wolves are not trading KAT for a star. If they are trading him it's because it's an ownership issued mandate and the most important goal will be saving money. This entire topic is an exercise in writing a super-long IF THEN statement.
IF Minnesota fails in the playoffs
AND IF Minnesota decides to trade Towns
AND IF another team wants to trade their own star
AND IF Minnesota wants their star instead of Towns
AND IF that another team does not want to trade for Towns directly
AND IF that another team wants a bunch of draft picks
AND IF that another team decides that the bunch that the Jazz have is the best bunch
THEN Should we trade for Towns?
