If Stephenson from Pacers --> Max Deal.... why not Gtime ?

There is no way Lance Stephenson is worth the MAX so I highly doubt he gets it. Besides if he wants the MAX he won't stay in Indy, they can't afford him.

The article was just speculating and saying the Pacers have the option to do something like that, but its an insane thing to speculate about.

Basketball ability aside, Stephenson is probably one of the riskiest guys in the NBA to give a big contract to.

He is borderline in what Bill Simmons calls "The Tyson Zone" (named after Mike Tyson. If you're in the Tyson Zone, almost nothing you do could surprise people)

Rasheed Wallace was in the Tyson Zone, Gilbert Arenas was, Ron Artest is for sure.

I don't think NBA GM's are going to be lining up to give a guy a max contract just so they can wake up each morning hoping the dude didn't push his girlfriend down the stairs again or something.

Also, why the F am I even debating Stephenson getting a max deal? It's lol worthy.

This is what is so incredibly awfully wrong with the NBA. The new season just started, there are 8 games a night, the Pacers are undefeated and Roy Hibbert is averaging over 5 blocks per game....but all of that is lost.....the story is about Stephenson's pending Free agency and how many millions of dollars he will make and how the Pacers won't be able to keep the team together.

Gag me.

No time to enjoy the moment, the fans must be reminded that this is a 'business' not a competition. The NBA has devolved into a daytime soap opera where the drama of the offseason and the spectacle of trades, contracts and draft picks has replaced the draw of good competion of skill and strategy.

Just two weeks into the new season and half the leagues fans are worrying about which one of their 'superstars' is going to leave to where and the other half of the league is busy tanking all over each other to get in line for the next batch of spoiled, over payed, over hyped players. And if you are a Jazz fan you are supposed to do both.

Meanwhile, the basketball becomes more unwatchable every year as the athletes replace basketball players and the refs do their best to keep jersey sells high for a handful of players.

Stern cannot leave fast enough.

Good post.

Despite all that, I still love watching nba basketball and just try to ignore all the BS that you just mentioned.
Its hard to do though

I heard an interview on 1280 that the Jazz can actually gain a couple of million on the salary cap by matching an offer instead of renewing. I can't remember the details, but that was one of the considerations on waiting to resign Hayward.

I'm sorry that you're this naive, but the only difference between now and the "good ole days" in this regard is that players that want what they're worth also have an insatiable press, the internet, and rumor mills whirring 24/7.

Anyone else notice last game with the introductions of the starting lineups Hayward said his name as Gordon "Gtime" Hayward?

Has he always done this?

The dedication, skill level and physicality of the players is also much higher. I can't watch pre-90s basketball for more than a few minutes at a time...complete garbage.
