For a lot of us, the biggest thing on our minds is the possibility of landing a star in the 2014 draft to add to our already spectacular young core, giving us a legitimate chance at winning championships down the road. With the potential departure of all the vets, this might actually be a possibility. However, some might argue that a team that features the C4 in big roles would be better than what we're currently putting on the court. So, here's the question we should be asking ourselves: how many games do you think we would win next season, if we let the majority of the vets walk and don't sign anyone significant?

This is what I think the team could look like next year:

Mo - Draft pick (Burke? McCollum? MCW?)
Hayward - Burks
Carroll - Marvin
Favors - Random vet - Evans
Kanter - Draft pick (Olynyk? WCS? Austin?)

We could debate about whether Mo/Carroll will be back etc. but I think this is a good basic idea of what the team could look like, if we really gut the team.

How many games does this team win? Do we land a top 5 pick? Are we fighting for one of the bottom playoff spots? Or are we somewhere in between?

The Jazz would be at least as good as this year. If they aren't, then there are worse years to be bad.

No-lose situation. And the Jazz might be able to pick up some assets by taking on salary.

I think we would land about where we are right now. If we somehow got Teague, then we would be better than this year.

So, we end up just out of the lottery, or just in it.

I think what we will try to do is use our cap space to absorb contracts and pick up two more picks in the same range, then package them in a combo with current players and future picks in order to move up. In other words, we get a high pick and make a winning push in the same year. My faith in all the C4 lets me believe this.

I said home court in playoffs but I think a 5th or 6th seed is the likely scenario. The youth is faster, rebounds better, hungrier, plays better D, meshes better as a unit, has better overall talent...

Hmm, interesting.

Without a bench?

First of all, the core 4 are like 20-23 years old so they can play 40 minutes per game most nights (although favors foul issues may cause a problem.

Second..... Burke, burks, marvin, plus another draft pick and a few free agents is not that bad of bench. (most teams have crappy benches, look at houston, golden state, dallas, portland, memphis, miami, boston, new york etc etc... none of them have great benches really, even san antonio doesn't have a good bench.)

I think we either get in the playoffs as an 8 seed or just miss the playoffs...... just like this year.

The op said "we dont sign anyone significant" I'm not convinced the core4 can carry a team for 82 games. I think they will have great stretches and some terrible ones.

True.
I think we will at least sign some carl landry, elton brand, jason maxiell, brandon bass, etc caliber of players though.... which would make for a decent bench with burks, marvin, evans and our draft picks this year.

Also, aren't we kind of FORCED to sign some significant free agents? Our core 4 are all pretty cheap and there is a minimum amount that we have to spend right?

I dont think we will give watson and tinsley each a 1 year 15 million dollar contract, so we are going to have to spend quite a bit of money somewhere.... so im quite certain we will at least have an average bench next year. (especially since burks and kanter will most likely be coming off our bench still anyway lol)

I voted for late lottery pick. Teams like the Magic, Suns, and Bobcats, to name just a few, would be significantly worse than the Jazz.
