For a good war movie I would suggest Battle of Algiers. The director doesn't take sides and portrays both the FLN and French Paratroopers/security personnel committing ghastly human rights abuses.

Tough question. Who wants to only have one movie? Thought about it since this thread started, and I guess I’ll settle for Shawshank Redemption. I’ve already watched it many times, and enjoy it every time. So, it should be safe for a few years anyway, lol. Importantly, it will always leave me feeling good. Always has. And, since it ends with the future unknown, but imagined, I can spend time imagining Red and Andy enjoying a second life on the Pacific coast of Mexico. And redemption is a good theme anytime.
