What's new

I'm all in for getting Gay

And that's all he's ever been since North Carolina, just flashes here and there. Of course Hayward was 24 when he had his
breakout year, so don't want to write Barnes off yet as an eternal role player.

He's not an eternal roleplayer though, he's a consistent starter.. wait til you see what he's about to get paid..

Hayward Hood and Barnes could all hit 100 3's next season. Hood and Hayward 150+

Yes maxing Barnes would be a monumental mistake for the franchise. A lot of us don't think Hayward is worth the "new" max, why would we spend that on a lesser player?

because they can play together, this is getting more help for Hayward adds another dimension, and much more depth to the team -- The bench would be muuuuch better, even if Hayward and Barnes are starting on the wing.

Barnes isn't someone dribbling the ball much or wasting the shot clock, like Rudy Gay.. He's a floor spacer and can attack closeouts, and pull up from midrange or attack the basket..

Look at these other contracts Utah has, Withey is cheap, there's a multitude of cheap PG possibilities, they can afford to make one big acquisition for sure. Ingles is cheap.

Then they'll be the additions of the draft pick or whatever comes from the draft.. Exum back, Healthy Burks, youngins have an off-season to get ready..

Hood going into a 3rd year will come back with a vengeance, If he doesn't start slow like this season that'll be key for a big season..

Barnes would be a key move for getting to 100ppg IMO.

The contract would be somewhere around 4 years 86 million for those wondering..

Lets say Barnes is the only move.. and they keep Pleiss in the D-League

Exum-Hayward-Barnes-Favors-Gobert
Burke-Burks-Hood-Lyles-Withey
Neto-Mack- Low cost FA/2nd round pick- Ingles - 1st rd pick(big)

Barnes could play some back up PF too..

That's only 80 something million total salary and I think 15 or 16 players depending on if Pleiss counts... (Obviously I'd cut him if need be)

Then in the summer of 2017 if they were to resign Hayward for 25mil per season, and Rudy for 15 per..

The salary would be right around 100 mil.. Mack, Burke and Withey would expire, but there'd be 2 1st round picks to replace them..

It's feasible..

The Cap is supposed to be 92 this next season and then close to 100 the one after that..

Rudy Gay, that is.

My reasoning:

1. We have to have someone with the same name as another player on this team. After we trade trey Burke, we need a replacement.

2. He can play small forward and power forward. We can go very big (hood, Hayward, gay, Favors, gobert) or small (exum, hood, hayward, gay, 1/2 Wasatch front)

3. He is a vet presence to calm the team down in high pressure situations.

4. He has been an all star, and knows how to score.

Possible downsides:

Both Memphis and Toronto got better after trading him.

He has the same name as Rudy, and his last name, which is gay.

Dumb ideas on jazzfanz never cease to shock me, but b_line, this is towards the top.

(coming from the guy who has by far had the most and fills the top ten Shaqtin' a fool nominees on JF.)

Did you see the one make though?? He left James Harden in the dust on a faceup move

Harden never gets beat. Twas really impressive.

Lol. Surprised Green hasn't chimed in here. He's been pushing the idea for months. Maxing Barnes would make us the laughing stock of the league. No thanks. I also think Hood is getting disrespected here. I wouldn't move him to the bench for anything less than a star.

Not factoring in what Exum and Hood will get after their rookie deals. I'm assuming Burks is let go. If 5 players are taking up $100M, it will be awfully tough to add 8 more for around $15M (about what would be left before hitting the luxury tax).

Yeah hood is the man. Can't see him being benched, but maybe getting a wing that's kind of like the third starting wing, just starts when we play small ball or something.

Hood is the long term solution though. He is gonna be an option 1b to Hayward's 1a.

Not saying I think Hayward is the number one option bs that everyone is griping abiut, just saying on this team, they are offensive 1a and 1b.

Gay could be our Igoudala. Exum could be our Livingston. We just need a Chef Stef

Agreed RE: Hood. His shooting and operation out of the PnR is going to be our best offensive weapon purrrrty damn soon.
