What's new

In 30 mpg, what Favor stats, minimally speaking, will bring you contentedness?

And great, he took more shots. Is that something to be proud of? I could score 15 a game on 25 shots. At least I'd go to the line more than 2.9 times a game which is awful...considering how many shots he takes.

One thing people need to remember is that we now have Marvin Williams going for Reebz as well, which should dumb-down everyones RPG a little. Im more concerned about his blocking/defense, and scoring, than his rebounding. He is a great rebounder, boxes-out well, and we have 4 other decent rebounders on our team in-case he's having a relatively-poor stretch. Im much more concerned about seeing whether we could run any sort of offensive play with him to the point of consistency. Favors's biggest question mark is his offense. His defense and rebounding is already at a contending level and will only improve, IMO (with exception to closing out on stretch-fours)

Disingenuous? No. He hasn't shot 50% in four years. Meanwhile, yes, there are a bunch of bigs in that 55-60% range or better than 49+% anyway. This year...in what was a terrible down year...

Chandler
Howard
Bynum
McGee
Gortat
Monroe

Nene
Howard
Okafor
Gortat
Horford
Monroe
Gasol
Gasol

along with a bunch of power forwards...

Why was this year a down year? Whatever. This list is just a bunch of guys worse than Al. Howard, Bynum, and Pau are better. Absolutely. But nobody else is in his class. Unless you believe the only difference between Al and Gortat is more shots.

Yeah, disingenuous. The last 4 years Al shot .497, .498, .496, .492. But very, excruciatingly technically, you're right -- he didn't shoot 50.

As for the lists, I'm not making an argument Al is better than Howard or Bynum. I'll leave out Monroe and Horford who have offensive games (and even Hibbert who's at 48 for his career), but the others are guys who don't create offense for the most part and only take the shots that come to them.

Gasol The Younger is an interesting case study, though. Two years ago, he shot 52 when he took 8.5 shots a game and had Zach playing next to him all year. Last year, with Zach hurt, he took 11 shots a game and his percentage dropped to 48. It kind of makes sense when you remember the guy only has a hook shot in the post.

Larger point is if you forced all those other guys with higher percentages to shoot more, their percentages would likely drop precipitously. Al being able to shoot 50 with volume is indicative of his talent. What holds him back is the FT's. If he can just make that improvement, he'll be a truly elite offensive center, and he's already in the top 5. Defense, sadly, is another story.

if we take favors' best season of per-36 numbers and adjust them to 30 minutes per game, we get 12.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.4 blocks.

the bigger question is, will he get 30 minutes? last year only three players reached that level, and two of the three are guys favors will be in direct competition with.

Im assuming since a bunch of people voted him the best Jazz player in a recent poll that he should get 20 and 10 in 30 minutes.
But since only one player on the team is about at that average, and he is considered our biggest problem by most here, I dunno what to expect.
I think if he works hard and isnt named Big Al, people will be happy.

Without looking at anyone else, I'd hope to see 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks a game. And shooting above 50%.

Billy tells the truth here.

I think we'll see favors get the green light to work on his game in-season. This will cause his percentages to be low for next year. This also puts me in the same camp as BillyShelby in that the most important thing for him is to develop a reliably scoring move (preferably more than one.) and if he comes into next season with one, my expectations of him will sky rocket. If he develops one/two over the course of the season, i'll be elated. If that occurs, stats will come.

Scoring and scoring efficiency were way down. It's really not too tough to figure out why.

Bell, Hayward, Harris, Millsap, Kanter, Favors, Jefferson (184th in NBA), Burks, Miles, Howard, Watson was the order for best to worst on our team last year as far as TS% goes. Not sure if I missed Tinsley and Evans or perhaps they didn't qualify.

Any idea where Mo, Marvin, and Randy would fall into line here?
