What's new

in a few years safety reflective vest will be the law on halloween trick or treating

My oldest is 12 and I am going to let her have some freedom this year. She will be with a group of friends and not off in soem empty neighborhood. She will be in busy ones with lots of parents and kids.

That sounds about right. I remember I went out without my parents pretty early but I also had cousins that were a few years older than I. Unfortunately for my daughter she is the eldest of her generation.

We let our kids go on their own at between 10 and 12, depending on the group. I was never that worried about bad things happening because I know that it really statistically is very insignificant that they will get kidnapped or what have you, but I was worried more about them understanding the rules of the road and made sure they knew to look out for cars and such. This year my youngest is 13 and she is excited to go out with some of her friends and we are going to sit back at home, make some frito taco soup and scare the bejeebus out of the little ones that come our way. :)

Trick and treat should not be allowed outside controlled environment. What kind of parent lets they kid take food from stranger and i jest for seven days? Its criminal like carrying your child in front seat of car on your lap

In Utah there are whole neighborhoods where people only "trunk or treat" on a Saturday night near Halloween in the local church parking lot. Because, you know, kidnappers. Kidnappers are everywhere, waiting behind every single bush just waiting there to snatch kids.

I despise trunk or treating. I especially despise religious groups such as LDS people doing trunk or treating. One is that people who like having trick or treaters are left out. If they are not part of the trick or treating no one comes to their house and makes them feel left out in the community.

The main reason I dont like it is because it hurts the safety of trick or treating. One reason that trick or treating is safe is that there are lots of kids and lots of parents keeping an eye on everyone. If you take the majority out it is less safe for the kids. I think trunk or treating should be banned.

Dutch is like our own version of Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity all rolled up into one.

How great.

I think he's more like half Rush Limbaugh half Alex Jones.

Yeah, I can see that too.

I chose Beck for the uber paranoid "the heathen left is out to get us" part, and Hannity for the "everything is an outrage due to the heathen leftist" part, but your hybrid works just as well if not better.

I could see why you picked them. Jones like Beck is paranoid. Rush like Hannity is full of outrage. It's funny that the GOP has embraced these outrageous caricatures. There are plenty of reasonable conservatives to listen to(David Brooks is a good example) so waste ones time with these jagoffs? I 4 srs don't get it.

Why does it have to be one or the other? Not sure if LDS in Utah do the trunk and treat on Halloween or not. Here in CA, we do it as part of the ward Halloween party which is held on either Tues or Wed (same night as young mens/young womens, or "mutual" for you old-timers). I estimate we have about 20 who hand out candy from their cars on trunk and treat night. And probably all of us also hand out candy on Halloween night.

I have lived in areas where they do the trunk or treat on a saturday near halloween, then the same people don't even have their lights on for halloween. I have been chewed out by a guy in the ward for bringing my kids out to his house telling me I am a bad parent and that we already had a trunk or treat almost as if it were ordained of God since it was a sacred "ward activity". Some people are nuts.

It'll only be a law if city insurance agencies say so. Insurance and lawyers own local American politics. Them and developers.

Insurance companies and lawyers don't have a very big Venn diagram area of common cause.

Insurance companies have historically enhanced their profit margins by shifting the overall mortality rates and other insurable event loses to favor their side of the bet. That means they want zero accidents, zero deaths, zero disabilities, zero disease, zero cancer. . . .. they try to pass laws to keep us from "winning" the bet by getting killed, maimed, skewered, and fried. kinda a benevolent sorta big brother. . . .

lawyers want us to sue each other for everything that happens.

I don't want insurance companies, lawyers, or government tolerated on this planet. ruins the quality of life.

my kids have been trained to drain every house on the street of all candy. We haul them around all night looking for more streets we can do, and we do statistical studies of where the best treats come from so we can go back next year.

they are never outta sight of our dump truck.
