Issues to consider:

Both players have have had one rough patch of games this year.

Alec's recent stretch has been really impressive.

Gordon has been asked to do a lot more. (but should that continue to be the case?)

Gordon averaging ~10 min more per game.

Alec drawing blood against opposing teams' backups (to some extent).

Footnote:
I'd say roughly 95% of jazzfanzers ranked Gordon above Alec coming into this year.

I won't say yes yet. Let's revisit this in February, and then again after 82 games.

There's really no answer

Alec was playing out of position part of the year as a PG.

Gordon has been playing out of position all year as a #1 option.

One thing: when Alec comes off the bench and has a lousy game, no one really says anything about it other than a few posts. When Hayward has a lousy game, threads pop up all off the place about how he's a bust/over-rated/trade him/don't resign him.

never thought i'd see Alec having a better eFG% than Gordon at the beginning of this year, thats for sure.

The case for Alec:

per 36 for the season he's at ~17p, 3.4a, 3.7r on 43,34,75%

in his last 10 games, per 36 hes at 20.5p, 4a, 4r on 51,50,78%
his last 10 games he's playing like a top 30 player -- can he sustain that?

as far as we know, alec isnt leveraging for 12-14 M next year

I'm pretty confident that if we had been starting Burks at the 2 and Hayward at the 3 for the entire year that this discussion wouldn't even be close.

Hayward

Burks is having a better season relative to the initial expectations. Hayward is having a slightly better season, sans expectations.

Per 36.

Player A: 17.1 points, 3.7 TRB, 3.4 ast, 1.1 stl, 2.3 tov, 5.0 FTA, .340 3P%, .431 2P%, .510 TS%

Player B: 20.0 points, 3.1 TRB, 1.9 ast, 1.1 stl, 1.2 tov, 5.2 FTA, .381 3P%, .435 2P%, .553 TS%

Hayward is having a better season than expectations? You know, the expectations that prevented him from signing a lofty contract in hope of getting closer to the max?

i think it's really cool that SLC Dunk came up with that nickname for him, and that its catching on. good for them.

Being a bust is not necessarily the same thing as having concerns about offer sheets beyond the value he brings to a team with legit options. In other words, the "trade him/don't re-sign him" angle mostly comes from the angle of not wanting to overpay for a player with obvious limitations, and those are legitimate concerns.

I said "sans", not "than". "Sans expectations" means "when you don't consider the expectations as a part of your argument".

Hayward
'Member when the argument used to be that Hayward's LENGTH at the 2 was his best scenario?

I think burks is having the better year....... just barely

Definately thinks burks should see some time in the starting lineup with hayward at the three.

The NBA is about efficiency and consistency. Hayward posses neither.

It's also about team.

If when Hayward was drafted somebody would have told you that Hayward would be the Jazzs go to guy in a few short years you would have died laughing. He's not a #1 option but he is a nice piece.

Short years? The last 4 years have been a ****ing nightmare.
