Is Deron Williams the floor general who can lead the Mavs to the playoffs? (article)

"I definitely felt fortunate to be the third draft pick to a team that had a lot of talent and a Hall of Fame coach," Williams said. "I learned a lot from him -- just about how to work and how to be a professional. His lessons went beyond the court. How to treat people. He was big on cleaning up after yourself. Just little things that you wouldn't think a coach would care about.

"There definitely were some things I could have done differently. He's probably the best coach I've played with to this day. I had a great 51/2 years there. It was overshadowed by one incident, and it's hung over my head since then."

Hmm. I'd like to think he's grown-up and learned something, but I also know about the Lionel Hollins **** and that is a whole ****ing cauldron of WTF.

It sucks that it had to go down that way. He was on hell of a player.

From the Jazz I've seen over the past 25 years Deron is the 3rd best player I've ever seen suit up for this team. Still hurts me the way it all went down.

Man I miss him so much. It's a shame how it all went down and that he has truly been injury plagued since then. Was one of the best for sure. It sounds like he has realized that the grass isn't always greener and matured a bit.

I personally never had an issue with his attitude, it's kind of like Jim Harbaugh, all he wants to do is win and doesn't accept that others don't always want that all of the time. It's competitive nature.

I wish he would've come back here this offseason; we could've really used him with Dante going down.

Dallas is in a really interesting position this year.. their first round pick goes to Boston this season unless they're in the bottom 7. They project to be much better than the bottom 7 but borderline playoff team. If they're trending downward and not looking hopeful for the playoffs around the trade deadline, I really wonder what Cuban will do. Added in the fact that (I think) Dirk took a paycut so Cuban could put together a contending team around him.. just and interesting situation to watch.

Can't help but think that the injury bug is karma for pushing Sloan out...

D-Will was simply awesome when he played for the jazz, I don't know what people were watching who say otherwise. I still watch some old highlight videos of him from time to time.

Damn. Boston could get two high lottery picks next year.

I've watched D-Will the last few years in Brooklyn/NJ - he has maybe a quarter of the intensity that he had when he played in Utah. And he's been whining about the same ankle and wrist injury for the last 5 years.

He's done - he'll flame out in Dallas as the season goes on (or get hurt). It's a nice thought - but I'd rather watch Dante develop without the inevitable circus revolving a D-Will return.

I remember listening to Larry Miller talk about Deron Williams during his thursday weekly show with Kevin Graham (or whoever) and Gordon Monson. He said that he had never seen someone with the same competitive fire as DWill.

Remember those days when it was a legit argument who was better, DWill or CP3? Seems impossible now.

Without DWill submarining the whole thing the Jazz don't have Favors though so I can't hate it. Even if we had to watch Ty Corbin do performance art for 3 seasons.

Freeze this moment a little bit longer.
Make each impression a little bit stronger.

The 2016 draft isn't shaping out to be much. I would MUCH rather have 2 draft picks in 2017 than 4 in 2016.

Also, Dallas is 3 - 0 to start out the season. Not a bad start for a team that we think is going to barely make the grade. It's not a good sign for us. Then again, we are 1 defensive stop away from being 3 - 0. Our only loss came to a 3 - 0 team. So, I think it won't be long before teams are chasing us for position in the standings. Hopefully De'ron grew up. He was a fine player, but a diva nonetheless. His biggest weakness was his inner Jordan Sparks and it has ruined his career.

They are 2-1. They lost to the Clips and beat the Suns and Lakers.
