Is Georges Niang Good at Defense Now?

Also, I think we've always underrated his defense. Stastically he's always been right around average according to advanced stats. It was only in the playoffs last year that he really got exposed.

Niang is the kind of guy that might not get as big a pay day as you think. BUTTTTT - we are headed for a salary crunch and I'm not even sure we can keep Mike with the numbers on the books. I think they will try and it likely requires moving Bojan, Favs, or JC... if they moved Bojan Niang would be the budget replacement.

I think Niang is working his way to BAE type money right now, but flirting with getting a chunk of someones MLE if he continues to shoot this well and has a solid playoff run.
I don't think he's going to get a big pay day - just more than The Jazz are willing to spend given their other commitments.

I think they're going to pitch to Mike hard and he wants to be here. And don't forget he's Smith's buddy. I'd say the chances are greater than 50% they figure out a way to keep him. That's why I'm not bullish on Niang being able to stay.

I've thought about swapping Bojan for Niang and don't hate it. I'm more than a bit concerned about Bojan's fourth year. It's just Bojan has a track record of hitting big shots and taking over games offensively - that's a really, really nice thing to have in your third option.

Look I wanted to slow play this a bit... but I think I'm going full stupid on this now. I think Niang might be our third best perimeter defender behind Royce and Mike. He has been really good. I only hope the rest of the league is sleeping on his *** cuz we need to keep him at a discount.

The Minivan looks more like a mid-size sport utility vehicle on defense. He's not just staying in front of guys he is getting into guys and being disruptive too. I did not see this coming but I think he's a better defender than Oni.
As the president of Niang Island, I would like to tell you that this is Real and that I warned you that Niangphoon was coming soon. Kthx.

Niang is good at everything.
Except trash talking apparently. He is scared of Joe ingles

He wasn't like terrible there but he was hunted last year. This year when they target him he has stone walled a lot of guys. He's now taking it a half step further by actively getting into guys and disrupting while staying in front of guys. I'd say he has gone from poor/below average to reasonably above average this year.

He also gets threes off in a volume and accuracy that is like 90th percentile in the league.

If the season ended right now I would say he gets around 4-5M on a multiyear deal. Could go up if he has a good playoff run.

I'd prefer Niang to Bojan, honestly. Niang is actually disruptive defensively and gives great effort all the time, athleticism be da$ned. Bojan is the second coming of a more unathletic Boozer on defense and has a no rebound gene to go along with it. Has made huge plays down the stretch a few times; Milwaukee and houston come to mind. But it would be sad to keep Bojan and his contract and lose Niang. Everyone can't stay. TOO much money committed, and buyouts arent' clamoring to come here and that's not likely to change.

I've been both impressed with and happy for Niang as this season has progressed. He has gained confidence on both ends of the floor. I think this will bode well for us in the playoffs if this isn't a flukey thing. I'm hoping it holds true. The dude is a testament to grit and determination. Give him all credit due.
