Look I wanted to slow play this a bit... but I think I'm going full stupid on this now. I think Niang might be our third best perimeter defender behind Royce and Mike. He has been really good. I only hope the rest of the league is sleeping on his *** cuz we need to keep him at a discount.

The Minivan looks more like a mid-size sport utility vehicle on defense. He's not just staying in front of guys he is getting into guys and being disruptive too. I did not see this coming but I think he's a better defender than Oni.

Dude is playing his way out of Utah. I'm happy for him but sad nonetheless.

Unless Smith goes full on Cuban, no way they start up two max contracts, retain Mike (which is gonna happen) AND compete for Niang as a UFA.

You're forgetting Joe is an excellent positional defender, Georges has interned at Ingles School of keeping your man in front of your fat arse.

Whats he worth? 7 mil for 14 min per night?

Niang is the kind of guy that might not get as big a pay day as you think. BUTTTTT - we are headed for a salary crunch and I'm not even sure we can keep Mike with the numbers on the books. I think they will try and it likely requires moving Bojan, Favs, or JC... if they moved Bojan Niang would be the budget replacement.

I think Niang is working his way to BAE type money right now, but flirting with getting a chunk of someones MLE if he continues to shoot this well and has a solid playoff run.

Niang fits a perfect niche in our system. All things considered I'd try harder to keep him and move on from Conley due to age and injury concerns, unless Mike gives us a deep discount.

I could see Bogey getting salary dumped to resign Conley, and Niang would be the perfect replacement in the starting lineup if that happens

WHen I made this thread a month ago he was at .1 DBPM. I checked today and he's still at that.

Jazz really need to retain Niang. I think he might have a potential growth curve if he can learn to handle the ball in the PNR, make plays, and shoot 3's off the dribble.

Unless he really explodes in teh playoffs, I dont think he's played well enough to get a payday that is out of Utah's reach.

One thing I noticed last night was that he was shooting threes like a guard. Usually it looks a bit slow and he has to get set, but he was getting them up quick like he was 6’2”.

Also, I think we've always underrated his defense. Stastically he's always been right around average according to advanced stats. It was only in the playoffs last year that he really got exposed.

No, I think we need to give his minutes to Shaq Harrison. This is why we aren't competative.

I don't think he's going to get a big pay day - just more than The Jazz are willing to spend given their other commitments.

I think they're going to pitch to Mike hard and he wants to be here. And don't forget he's Smith's buddy. I'd say the chances are greater than 50% they figure out a way to keep him. That's why I'm not bullish on Niang being able to stay.

I've thought about swapping Bojan for Niang and don't hate it. I'm more than a bit concerned about Bojan's fourth year. It's just Bojan has a track record of hitting big shots and taking over games offensively - that's a really, really nice thing to have in your third option.

As the president of Niang Island, I would like to tell you that this is Real and that I warned you that Niangphoon was coming soon. Kthx.
