You get Cooper and you suddenly have a really good team.

with Clarkson/Collins/Hendricks/Sexton off the bench. With Filipowski/Sensabaugh/Williams/Harkless/Juzang on the deep bench with potential to step-up with development or be consolidated with draft assets into another star.

And maybe you get even luckier and Minnesota is in the lottery. Maybe you get even luckier and their pick jumps into the top 4.

So combining some comments from other threads, it seems to me if we get through the next few hours w/o sending away Collins or Sexton, we're going to try to get to the playoffs next year.

I think the lynchpin to this idea is Collier's development. Dude is ballin and seems to be helping unlock Keyonte and is feeding the bigs.

Per Cy's comment above, if Lauri gets back to last season's form, that isn't a tanking roster, at all. I have less heartburn giving up next years 1st round if it isn't in the lottery anyway, and we seem that we could do the play-in at the very least if we're actually trying to and maybe be in acquisition mode to secure being there.

Another top 5 pick next year would be nice, but I really don't think it's worth throwing away the team we have at this point. Give me one of Cooper/Harper/Bailey and the assets we already have accumulated and I think a contender can be constructed from those pieces.
 
Not at all. Trades can happen in the off season.
 
We may be tankin' and losing but we're playing a lot of close games. We're not getting blown out a lot. So we're going to have to trade talent for draft picks to tank next season and we have so many future picks already....
 
it shouldn't be off the table. in fact, it should 100% be ON the table. arguably a top 5 prospect of the last 15 years is out there in Dybantsa. and Boozer and Peterson aren't terrible consolation prizes.

if the experts are right and Dybantsa is better than Cooper freaking Flagg? yeah, you shoot your shot.
 
Jazz will try win the first few months. If they're fifty fifty team or better I see them push in for the play in. If it's closer to 40% Jazz goes into tank mode.
 
Lots of factors, but in general I’d say we definitely go into next season with the intention of winning.

If around the midway point Jazz are floundering and obviously not ready yet. I could see a big effort made to keep the pick. Would realllly suck to misplay it and give up a lotto pick.
 
They're definitely trying to tank, I think Ainge is just being annoying in that he refuses to trade Collins and Sexton unless he gets above a level of value he wants and in the end, they'll be traded at next deadline for nothing.
 
I think that still gonna be the plan.

I'd guess the plan right now would be to tank this one and the next, then start trying to compete after that (or maybe they trade Lauri in the offseason and show the plan to tank for another 2+ years).
