Is Rudy Gobert the most overrated player in NBA history?

Rewind to a few months ago and the majority of people here were pounding their chest about how Rudy was such an amazing talent/impactful player and that he would instantly transform the Wolves into a top 2 seed / championship contender.

Now he's struggling without Quin Snyder/Donovan Mitchell to carry him and people are already saying that it may be one of the worst trades in NBA history (as I predicted from the jump, shout out to me).

So that leads me to ask, is he the most overrated player in NBA history? And does Donovan's success and MVP candidacy show that he was truly our best player (hint: yes)?
 
He is not a plug and play piece... that much we know for sure. I'm still blaming more on Ant and DLo lack of BBIQ and lob passing ability and their coaches for not knowing how to use him offensively.

That being said.. lately it has looked like his hands are worse than they used to be. He is fumbling rebounds and passes way more than I remember him doing. Maybe its the criticism and pressure getting to him? They also rank 24th in REB% which seems outlandish for a team that has Gobert at center.

That being said, if you saw them play Miami few days ago you may have noticed Ant had 8 turnovers, 7 of which belonged in the "ugly" category. They are 26th in turnover% and 22nd in 3PT%. So they rank near league bottom on turnovers, 3s and boards. All three are kinda important these days.. and only 1 of those 3 pin blame on Rudy.

Don't forget, Rudy haters can blame everything on him. Don't you remember it was his fault he couldn't adequately defend ever single player on the floor by himself in that one playoff game, so Mitchell could hang back and get a spa treatment instead of being bothered to play defense? Yeah that was all Rudy's fault. What a loser that can't completely shut down the parade to the rim AND every single 3 point shooter on the team at the same time. Other people can't be bothered to play any defense at all, it has to all be on Rudy.

Haters gonna hate.
 
Their goal was to complete KAT and to become this defensive juggernaut. What they hadn’t factored in was how predicated the modern game is on outside shooting. They also hadn’t anticipated the blowback from their shoot first guards. There is also increased focus this year from the league on what constitutes an illegal screen which further diminishes Gobert’s game. Also, this is a player slightly past his peak. Still, Gobert is rebounding and he is shutting down the paint to a large extent.

The consequence of the poor reception from teammates has maybe been the most damaging to Gobert’s mindset, exacerbating the situation leading to more self conscious play. It was just the wrong strategy at the wrong time and in the wrong place. All of which Danny Ainge correctly anticipated, as we have their pick this year and could ostensibly end up with two lottery picks because of it.

So I guess the moral of the story is: Don’t Worry, be Happy!

But your assertion that Gobert is the most overrated player in the history of the game is a metaphysical statement, not a scientific one. And we empiricists don’t buy into other stories about reality.
