Isiah Collier Hype and Appreciation Thread

I hope Collier can develop into a plus defender at some point. I think that's the biggest thing standing in his way from being a positive player that he can realistically improve on. Dont have much hope for the shooting.

Collier is 2nd in the league in assists per 36 (Jokic) and 5th in the league in assist % (Ball, Jokic, Doncic, Cade). Pretty decent company.

the only bench player in the league in the top 20 in apg.

1) He has the ball all the time when he plays
2) He can't score and usually won't even try
3) You tend to get a **** ton of assists in the NBA if you play with a couple of great scorers and just keep giving up the ball.

I gotta say, Jazz hit the jackpot as well with Collier. He's a beast when given the opportunity to play. Scores without any issue and gets assists easily like Stockton. If he played 36 minutes a game, he'd be doing 12-14 assists a game.

Not every guy needs to be an all round star for us. He's a very good assist man. I have no problem with him trying difficult passes. He's showing that his aggression, acceleration and strength getting to the basket cause problems for defenders. He might only ever be a 30% 3 point shooter at best. I'm OK with that. You need role players and he seems to have a good attitude. For the 29th pick we did great here.

The thing i like most about Collier is he is a change of pace point guard.

When he comes in the Jazz start to run. He brings tge ball up the court so fast. If players run they know they will get eady buckets.

I love change of pace PGs.

I agree his defense will be KEY. I think he could get to 35% 3pt shooting with more work.

He has had a number of games where he has been a spark defensively. I see no reason why that cant be added to his game. He is physical, quick, a bit of a bully, and those things translate to good defense.

Also, his 3 point shooting was putrescent last year. He clearly worked on it. I expect he will continue to improve. I have been a big Collier fan since i saw his improvement last year and his playmaking abilities.

I am a massive Collier homer. He also has a 3-1 assist to turnover ratio. He turned 21 in October. The man improved throughout his rookie season and is looking even better now. He's shooting 51% from the field.

He's scored double-digits the past 8 games!

I don’t think he really needs to develop his 3pt shot much past 33% as long as he stays explosive and develops his mid game and ft shooting. Don’t get me wrong bumping his long range shot would be huge but with his other tools it’s not going to kill him and stop him from having a great career.

I really don't know what to make of Collier. He is a mix of that was nice and this ball dominance won't play against good teams. In the end I having a hard time getting past the lack of outside shooting. The game gets a lot more difficult against good teams and particularly in the playoffs when teams can game plan for your weaknesses. He is still only 21 though and seems to have a good work ethic so I'm not writing him off as a non 3pt shooter but I really hope he doesn't go the Andre Miller route where he never develops a consistent outside shot. The game gets more difficult in the halfcourt when opposing teams can slack off your point guard and dare him to shoot.
