The argument for Parker over Wiggins is mainly based on the belief that Parker would stay in Utah for 10 years as the face of the franchise. Whereas, other guys might leave on a player option year.

That's just the reality of getting a superstar to play in Utah long term.

That said, Parker is legitimately the #2 player in this draft for a lot of teams.

and that belief is based on the fact that he is a mormon.

its a toss up between wiggins and parker for me. embiid is a liability from what I see...potential greg oden esque career depending on what the doctors say about his back. It's sad to see too, he's a baller with tons of potential, but no team will want to gamble on a player with a back problem this early in his career.

Taking Parker over Wiggins would be the worst move the franchise has ever made.

If you build a legit team, he's not going to leave. Both Westbrook and Durant seem fine in OKC and I would argue that's at least as ****ty a place as SLC, if not more so.

The idea that Parker somehow will love SLC because he's Mormon is laughable.

If you take all these factors into consideration, then yes, Parker is the right pick for the Jazz. You get a long-term franchise player and scoring leader you can build around.

Both Wiggins and Embiid are potentially more dominant players though.

I agree with Cyrone, but Parker is reportedly #1 on DL's board.

wiggins is a freak though.....i'd love him in a jazz uniform. He's just growing every game.

we'll see what happens during march madness! going to be awesome.

The logic could backfire, if Parker feels there's too much weird pressure in Utah because he is Mormon. He might rather be a Mormon somewhere else.

Durant and Westbrook don't mind being in smaller markets. They're not the guys that long to be in NY and LA, like Carmelo and Chris Paul.

I think Carmelo is one of the few who actually thought a larger market would be better. Pretty much every other superstar who has ever left anywhere left because the team was mediocre/had no room for growth.

Nobody likes leaving a very good team for uncertainty. Just win.

The Jazz must out-tank the Lakers and Orlando for a chance to get into the top-3. You'll have to forgive me for not having faith that the odds will shine particularly favorably on the Jazz. If the Jazz are in the top-3 and Wiggins, Parker, and Embiid declare, the Jazz are in a no-lose situation. Lottery at all costs.

Parker staying in SLC because he's Mormon is overblown. Nobody seems to want to focus on the fact that his mom is a Utah native, that he's obviously got cousins and other family there, that he considered BYU strongly enough and that he's visited here numerous times. Mormon or not, those are relatively strong state ties, if I do say do myself, and goes to show that the whole "living in Utah" stigma probably isn't a huge deal.

Anything Chad Ford has said on this topic for the last 6 months.

Could be a clever smokescreen though. Jazz are good at that.

That's why I used the word 'reportedly.'

Reportedly means someone reported something.

Think you are working the word "supposedly".

The "Utah likes Parker the best" thing is just media making assumptions because he is Mormon.

Okay, Chad Ford claims that he is in contact with the Jazz FO and that Jabari is #1 on Utah's draft board. I consider this a 'report' and hence use the word 'reportedly.' However, it could be misdirection on the part of the Jazz FO. So take it however you want. You could also insert the word 'allegedly' if you prefer.

Defense and athleticism put Wiggins ahead of Parker as a prospect. It's better to have someone who can get easy shots than someone who can make difficult, contested shots. People have to respect Wiggins' athleticism and back off him enough that he can rise up and get a clean shot anytime he wants. My concern with Wiggins right now is that his handle is too lose. If he can improve his dribble, then he can bring his athleticism more into play and become close to unguardable.
