What's new

J.R. Smith is on the block

and he does shoot a ton of crappy shots but man when hes on, he is one of the best in the league and you have to respect his 3 point shoot anytime he on the court becasue he will just keep shooting them until he catches on fire

That is the problem you don't want guys who can shoot you out of games so easily. JR Smith shot his team out of games more than he wont them games. By a large amount too.

The Nuggets are not looking to trade him for salary cap relief so keep wishing. And even if they did trade him for nothing it wouldn't be to someone within the division or even western conference.

They are looking for similar talent. Why would they look to make the team worse when they are trying to keep melo there?

One of the biggest boom or bust players in the NBA. You may recall that he absolutely murdered the Jazz in Game 1 of our playoff series with Denver, scoring 18 points in the fourth quarter.

All that said, I remember talking to Denver fans in the stands and they flatly admitted that they had a love/hate relationship with J.R. and that it was impossible to commit to him fully because you cringed every time he shot until he hit a couple in a row. That doesn't really sound like a guy that I want.

Does anyone know why his shooting declined so precipitously last season?

This would be a no. Using a trade exception does not matter in relation to luxury tax. True we could try to trade someone to a team who still has cap room to reduce tax burden, but not worth the risk with a guy who would be in Sloan's doghouse from about minute 1 on.

he could be the differance maker for the Jazz any game and I think that he would have a more stable team and coach with the Jazz then he did with Denver and he can be the game changer we need. A line up of Dwill Bell Jr Jefferson Memo would be a pretty scary lineup

Hayward > Smith
Fixed.

Unless we're dumping AK or Miles, there simply aren't enough minutes to give to another wing. Yes, I know AK can play some at the 4. But at the expense of Millsap? Jefferson? Well, I guess you could assume Memo plays ZERO minutes.

96 minutes at the 4/5: Jefferson (35); Millsap (31); Okur (20); Fes (10)
96 minutes at the 2/3: AK (30); Raja (28); Miles (28); Hayward (10).

What I don't want happening is Hayward not getting in games. And quite frankly, Smith is a horrible shooter. Do we really want a guy who only hits 43% and needs to take a bunch of shots to even be effective?

I want to see the main rotation players get enough minutes to be effective. It was a terrible situation when Sloan was trying to find enough minutes for Harpring, AK and Miles at SF or Brewer, Korver and Matthews at the 2.

Three man rotation at the 2/3 and 4/5, with each getting 28-35 mins, and 10 minutes for Fes and Hayward in supporting roles. IMO, that's a perfect amount of PT for everyone. If Okur isn't ready in Ocotber, then increase everyone's minutes a bit and slide AK over behind Millsap. Or bring in a guy like Mikki Moore to play 10-15 mins/per.

Without Memo
4/5: Jefferson (37), Fes (15), Millsap (34); AK (10)
2/3: AK (22), Raja (30), Miles (30), Hayward (14)
