Jackpotting Around 52 - Uproar Theory, Tankxiety, Keyonte, and Trade Talk

Its not just the Jazz. Everyone walks the tight rope and hopes for competitive losses, even though they all know "competitive" leads to occasional wins.

They all try to create an environment where the kids can play good basketball which is just barely not good enough. I guess they are all dumb.
Not the jazz last year.
They even got fined. Finished last with a roster that wasn't close to last.

Once we decided to mothball Lauri, John and then we also sat Sexton I agree.
Keyonte this season is leagues better than Sexton and Nurkic is a better fit than Collins.

ANd Cody is actually playable this year vs last year him being a massive massive negative we played a lot of minutes.

Those things are true but the roster wasn't *** or assy as some other tanking rosters. The biggest difference other than Key has been Lauri playing better this year after the year of discovery... but he was still on the roster. Also, had healthy Walker last year.

And clutch play. We’re not as good as our record indicates this year.

Oh you thought someone said the roster was great. I see why you are confused now. No one said that. The jazz finished with the worst record in the league last year. Everyone knows the roster sucked. Kinda obvious

Shenanigans did happen doe

Last year Lauri missed 35 games
Sexton missed 19 games
Collins missed 42 games
kessler missed 24 games.

Total of 120 games missed by 4 starters who were also our best players last season.

This is true of course - the Jazz roster last year was better than their record.

But not actually that much better. Generally speaking, I don't think people appreciate how bad the team was last year even when healthy. We were on a 16 win pace in games Lauri played for example (actual record was 9-38), and only a 20 win pace with Kessler (14-43). Most of these games overlapped with one another. The Jazz were similarly woeful with Collins and Sexton available.

Someone with more free time than me is welcome to scrub the lineup data and see what the team's record was with all four guys playing, but I'd be willing to bet it was somewhere around a 25 win pace. So, the team was super ***, just maybe not super turbo ***.
