Jackpotting Around Episode 30- Emotion Dump and Lauri Markkanen Trade

Listened yday. Excellent as usual. Also my daughter counts as a hater. She hates it when she has to listen to a podcast instead of ****ing Billie Eilish in the car. She asked why you guys sound like you’re bored
Thanks. It’s usually kinda late when we record but tell your daughter we’ll pick up the energy lol.

Quality pod. The discussion on Sensabaugh and Lauri trade scenarios were welcome.

I would just like to add that the fit with Lauri in Orlando would be weird.
At some point we will do a deep dive Lauri trade convo. There are a lot of good destinations still. The matching salary is more challenging. It was more about that particular scenario and Lauri's current value. Which is likely down a bit.

Reed Sheppard is probably worth an early second at this point.

I had him as the best prospect in the draft, but he's a huge bust.

Whitmore is probably worth an early second as well.

Lauri is probably worth an expiring and a mid first.

This deal is worth more than Lauri is worth because the Suns pick should be top 11. Without the pick, it's probably about right.

Lauri hasn't been good since the trade deadline of last year and the best defense of his bad play is that he's been constantly injured and trying to throw games and this is an uncomfortable defense for a contender thinking of trading for a 7 foot tall guy who is 28 years old and is on a four year max.

Siakam had much higher trade value when he was moved for a mid first, an expiring, a late first, and a high upside but likely bad 2026 pick.

Getting Lauri back to the level where he can get back the Siakam package should probably be the goal.

Lauri to pistons makes a lot sense. Collins too. They have a surplus of defense pieces that we currently lack. Their coach don't trust Holland or Ausar and are constantly playing Beasley and THJ ahead of them. I thinks there's an opportunity there.

If Ausar can do 90% of what his brother is doing in Houston, it could be a steal.

I want to address that Lauri is not going to be traded unless someone overpays. It's not happening.

They knew **** can get rough with the tanking season, and trying some new stuff with him, which they did. If they were even considering to trade him this year, they'd be operating very differently. He is going to be traded later, if he will be traded. If they nail their draft, they want to see Coop/x fit with Lauri and the speed of progress. If they fail in the draft, they'll trade other veterans and pump up Lauri's value next season by drawing up more plays to him that's his bread and butter (like plays where he gets ball in movement)

I disagree on the Sensabaugh stuff. He can shoot. Sometimes he can do primary ball handler stuff. But he is slow on D. He plays smaller than his size on D. The dream is to have better on the ball players in the future. And his D limits his value as a role player. Hopefully he grows out of these weaknesses. But I view this season as. A pump to his trade value. We cannot keep all these young guys.

At the end of the day he's a guy who can score and shoot at a NBA level. I think all of our young players have NBA level skills which is nice but they all also have flaws (besides Kessler) that could prevent them from being rotation players on good teams.

No reason to give up on Brice at all. I'm not a big believer, but I'm also not out and would like to give him the full 4 years to see how he can improve.

That being said, if there was a good trade out there that needed one of our guys thrown in to get a deal done, he would be my pick as the sacrificial lamb

Id ask for Tari, not Bari

I mean, you can ask, but Tari has been straight up better than Lauri this year so they would say no, lol.

Again, the ceiling for Lauri is the Pascal Siakam trade.

-Top 35 player at best but a clear 2nd or 3rd option.
-28 year old PF that some teams may be uncomfortable about having to pay a 4 year, 30% max.
-Rebuilding team that has held onto their guys for way too long for unclear reasons.

The issue is that Lauri has been so mediocre since the trade deadline last year and has been injured so much that he caries massively more risk than Siakam did when he was traded. If Lauri has 20 or 30 great games to start next year, the Jazz can probably get back what the Raptors got for Siakam (an unprotected but so so pick for that year, an unprotected but so so pick two years later, some throw-ins).

I understand your schtick is to be a negative douche, but at least be informed of what is being discussed. KD is going to Houston, not Lauri, so even though what you said is complete BS, it doesn't even matter.

Well, I think Phoenix would want Tari even more relative to Markkanen as Phoenix is 27th in defense and needs to shed a ton of salary.
