Do you mean Trae Young? Not super-maxing Young (and keeping picks) might be a scenario I can get on board. Would need to load up on defense like crazy overnight (which makes the idea of shrugging about Kessler all the more puzzling but I guess it does also open up the cap flexibility for such a move). Also if you wanted to max Young, you could get him to come to Utah. Maxing Young would be insane though
No one can super max Young besides Atlanta (unless it's a S&T but that would be extremely difficult to make happen I would assume).Do you mean Trae Young? You could probably pick up some assets if/when you trade him if we find a better prospect from our many draft picks/assets/whatever at the free agent max. The problem the Hawks have is the incumbent disadvantage of being expected to offer significantly more than the free agent max to a probably-catastrophically flawed player.
By next year I’m probably ready to win a bunch of regular season games and be a paper tiger in the playoffs. We’d have time to develop whoever it is we have if there’s anything to develop and probably a better environment for development (actually trying to win games and probably accomplishing that) in the pursuit of becoming a real tiger.
I’m well-aware. I wouldn’t super max him either way. That’s what I was saying in the post.No one can super max Young besides Atlanta (unless it's a S&T but that would be extremely difficult to make happen I would assume).
I don't know if maxing him is insane. If you essentially get him for just cap space rather than paying him a ton and trading a ton for him. I just think that is the nature of FA though. If you are going to get the guy you must pay the premium. I think he's more likely headed to Brooklyn, Wash, or Atlanta ponies up. Could also see some sign and trade scenarios coming up.Also if you wanted to max Young, you could get him to come to Utah. Maxing Young would be insane though
I think that there is a chance they just don't like his player type and don't want to commit to it... my issue is then they should absolutely trade him. He will improve but I doubt he's gonna go Brook Lopez. By waiting they will subject themselves to another team valuing his services above what they are offering now. Maybe he gets squeezed but I doubt it as long as he's healthy. I think every cap space team would have interest in him and depending on how extensions play out... he may be the top RFA that teams see as gettable.Good debate, guys. My guess is the main issue here is simply his value, i.e., his projected value as a player in the coming years. How much to pay for an offensively limited center? We’ll see if both sides compromise before the season kicks off.
I think 40-45M is fair for Trae and there are some instances where I could see a team mitigating some of his issues while still accentuating his positives. No one can super max Young besides Atlanta (unless it's a S&T but that would be extremely difficult to make happen I would assume).
I'm just a no go on Young for anything over 35 million per year, which he would never agree to, at least for Utah.
GI've me Braun if he can take another step this year. Two way athlete who has gotten better every year
