So if Kessler is staying, looks like the Ainges are trying to recreate the "Triple Towers" approach the Cavs used in 21-22 with Lauri, Mobley and Allen. That worked... kind of.
But man, I hate this trade. I don't care about the guys we let go, to say the least, but people don't realize how meh JJJ has been for a while now. I mean he's played NOTHING like a max guy. He's a black hole who fouls constantly, can only hit wide open 3's and his rim protection has REALLY fallen off. Memphis realized a long time ago they can't build around him. Soft as hell.
The Grizzlies are going full rebuild it seems, which doesn't surprise me at all. The signs were there and I presumed some dumb team was gonna trade for JJJ. Well, that dumb team was us.
Konchar doesn't move the needle (doubt he gets minutes), Landale is a decent energy big and Vince can get hot once in a while but is something of a chucker. Another Svi.

Suns 2031 first is definitely a premium asset as Booker will be 34 by then. We didn't give up 3 firsts for no reason. And how’s our 2027 first gonna be mediocre? West is super stacked and even with JJJ we are a playin team at best. That's probably another lottery pick. That's my whole issue with the trade. JJJ isn't good enough to fix our issues on defense all on his own. And assuming we bring back Kess, we are out of ammo to improve our perimeter D.

Who what now? Crooked finger or not, the John Collins adventure was a tremendous waste of everything. Was at best a net-zero move.
Let’s talk about the more important part of my frustration there, though: we should’ve thrown the “max” ($25m a year) at Austin Reaves and we couldn’t because of that move. People thought I was nuts but I was right about that. Only Reaves himself could convince me he wouldn’t have signed the sheet because he would’ve made double what the Lakers were even able to offer him.

Again -- our roster is not full of first and second year players slowly getting better. We have a mixed roster with our two best players either in their peak or hitting their peak. One is young, the other may not have many more years left.
The emergence of Keyonte George and Walker Kessler has forced management's hand -- we cannot just be in pick accumulation mode forever like Detroit until we're ready. We sat on the war chest until something popped up, and we pulled the trigger. We did it in a way where many of our major assets were retained, in case we need to round out the roster further depending on playoff success.
The fact that we are where we are in terms of win-loss record is frankly malpractice, and unethical tanking. If Kessler didn't have season-ending injury we would be on our way to the playoffs.
It will be fascinating to see whether we ask JJJ to sit out the rest of the season, truly fascinating. We are currently 8 games behind the 10th seed, so I think we're done. There's a chance we fall to 8th-10th, in which case we just have to pray for the lottery gods.

I thought we learnt the importance of perimeter defense from the Rudy/Quin/DL era. But j guess not... Rolling 3 traffic cones out at the 3pt line and hope everything gets funneled to JJJ/Kess. That is not a championship level gameplan. Not even close.
Yeah, my first reaction was "This is disgusting from Baby Ainge." Disgustingly excellent trade skills. It looks like they traded a lot, but that's from people looking at quantity without assessing true value.
Also - very clear (because Danny has said it about seven times in interviews) they want to play athletic and long. KOC, per usual, gets it:
