Jazz 2017/18 Playoff Bus! All Aboard!

Doubt it. Why would you move just for that when there is a reasonable expectation that the Allstar selection criteria will change within the next 2-3yrs.

ie. No conferences, just select the best players
Should have put them in the right order.

A.) Easier path to the playoffs.
B.) Consistently playing against weaker teams means better numbers.
C.) Better stats = better opportunities for recognition - All Star, All NBA, MVP, etc.
d.) Better stats and recognition leads to more $$$$$ (salary and endorsements).

That’s why I think you’ll see a few guys make the jump to the East.

Im not convinced. I wouldnt be signing up to face Lebron, Philly and the Celtics for the next decade.

I still think the best FOs are in the West. Better FO= Better coaches, talent, development etc. Also fewer bad contracts.

See how things shake out after the 2018/19 Free Agency I guess.

Only 1 1/2 game difference between EC 8th seed and WC 8th seed.
If you look at the conferences, it's much more balanced than it has been in the past.

1. Two great teams in each. Toronto's record is only 3 games worse than Houston's (and Toronto stopped the Rockets' win streak. Boston is certainly not the caliber of GS, but they're also missing an all-star. How many wins would a healthy Hayward have added?
2. Only a 3 1/2 game difference from 3-8 in both the EC and WC.
3. 8th seed is 35-31 in EC vs. 36-29 in WC. Not a huge difference.
4. Five teams < 25 wins in the East vs. 4 teams in the WC. There's the main difference; one fewer team that sucks.

I'm not saying the West isn't stronger. If you go team by team through the playoff seeds and certainly 9-10 in the West, the WC is certainly better.

What's each conference's record against the other?

The East is trash man.

Can’t disagree strongly enough. Win-loss records are worthless when you consider the relative strength of the team’s in each conference. I’d take any of the West’s top 11 teams over all but the top 3/4 teams in the east. Even the Lakers look better than most of the Eastern playoff teams this year. Give them a cupcake schedule and they’ve got a winning record right now.

This.

The east west thing has evened out a little but the all star thing is real. Making all star teams factors into guys legacies and future earnings.

The other thing is GS is such a huge juggernaut and may be together and functional for another 4-5 years... guys will want to make the finals if all other things are equal.

I think Hayward was a unique situation. Had two situations that were fairly equal so the situation had more sway imo. I think it will hurt his career earnings (that 5th year at 40M prolly looks good right now). If he doesn’t play well his legacy (not all that great) will look worse. He could have had a lot here... I know small market but we have provided a ton of opportunities for former players. I’m completely over him now... Ricky has turned a corner and so that part of the exit isn’t bothering me... DM has turned Hayward leaving into a “meh I don’t care that much”
