Jazz - 76ers trade

Yeah, it'd be like offering a package like that for Derrick Favors. We'd laugh the proposer off the site. That's what Philly fans would do if you proposed this Holiday thread (heh) to them.

Their point is totally valid and it underlines the entire idea of trading anyone: Why would someone want what I don't? It happens all the time, so chalk it up to 'grass is greener' in addition to fit. I've never seen Al or Devin (at least as the lead PG) as Jazz players. I'm hoping they look good because being stuck with their salary would then go from unideal (if they were pretty good/tradable) to a nightmare (if they sucked, they then become untradable).

You and I are of the same opinion on Harris and Jefferson -- as players, and with respect to the future of the team.

But, I (perhaps more than you?) have convinced myself to like them a little more recently. I think we do have the pieces to complement Harris fairly well (provided Hayward and Burks come along); he'll be good enough to deal during next offseason or at next season's trade deadline for pick(s) and a decent player. It's basically the same for Jefferson. Contenders should be interested in their skills+contracts (particularly since they can be acquired before the big taxes on the new CBA kick in).

So, I think they can keep us relevant while the Young Four get some experience, then be ditched for more youth and cap space. It's hard for me to be patient, though. A promising PG prospect would be a good salve for my anxieties.... which sucks because I don't see one.

(^nothing surprising here. This has almost become a calming mantra for me.^)

The only only problem with trading Jefferson and/or Harris to a contender is that contenders are usually thin on assets useful for a rebuilding team (or will not part with them). Getting a protected 1st rounder for Jefferson and/or Harris when it's all said and done would be a very poor return. Ideal homes for them are teams that are on the trend upward, but still have assets and need to fill a shortcoming on the roster to make the next step.

Exactly. Basically it's easier to make a trade with a similar team (as far as contender, rebuilding, etc.) with different position needs.

It's amazing how 75% of the board loathes CJ (certainly understandable) thinks Harris, Jefferson and Okur are garbage, but assumes the rest of the league will jump at the chance to acquire those players and be perfectly willing to give the Jazz young talent in return.

I think this about sums it up. Why don't we give this team a chance before we start calling everyone "garbage"? The opinions of CJ I can understand. Harris hasn't been stupendous either, but he's only played half a season here. I'd rather give him time than rush into something we might regret later.

A little premature to give up on Harris isn't it?
The idea that a player totally changes every time he goes to a new team is a poorly thought-out one, and on the whole he hasn't been that good. He had one or two really good seasons, and he's never been a very good pure point.

Besides that, he is about eight years older than The Four and that gap will just widen as the team drafts. Whether the Jazz are above .500 or not this year, I can promise anything approaching championship is years away, and they are more than likely ending the year below .500. For a guy that has traditionally used his speed to do everything he could, aging is a scary thing.

I personally feel (and have felt) that the Jazz need(ed) to trade Harris in short order to maximize his market value AND get something back in general. If they extend him, it's an outright mistake. If they don't, they lose him for nothing.

There are teams that could use him. I don't think the Jazz are that team. Besides everything just mentioned, his game is iso/draw-and-kick. I don't see that happening here anytime soon as the primary way the Jazz score OR use their PGs.

The Jazz need to trade for a young point guard who can actually learn the offense. Devin Harris is garbage. How about Okur, Harris and CJ Miles for Holiday, Brand and a future 1st round pick. This way the Jazz eat up Brand's contract for the 76ers who has about 35 million/2 years left on his deal but we get one of the most promising young PG's in Holiday and a future draft pick. Plus we dump shot chucker.

PG: Holiday/Watson
SG: Burks/Bell/Hayward
SF: Hayward/Evans/Howard/Millsap
PF: Millsap/Favors/Brand
C: Jefferson/Favors/Kanter

Next year we could always trade Brand as he will be an expiring contract and draw a lot of interest from teams. How I see it is that the Jazz wont need that 35 million in the next 2 years as I don't think we will make major changes via free agency

If Harris sucks so bad, why the hell would the Jazz want him along with two expiring contracts (one of whom chucks, the other of whom is nearing retirement) for a future stud point guard (he'll be a top six or seven point guard this year or next), their low post anchor (heavy contract or not) AND a 1st round pick? This is one of the most lop-sided pipe dreams I've ever seen on the board.

That is quite an accomplishment, indeed.

Here's a trade to chew on. How about Jamal Tinsley for Michael Jordan in his prime. KOC make it happen!

Not even close.
