Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

Why on Earth would NOP go all in on Mitchell when they have McCollum?

Not saying DM isnt an upgrade over CJ, but it's on the margins and the cost would be through the roof.

Makes no sense.
Who knows? Maybe they really prefer Mitchell over McCollum. I'm telling you - we don't know what kind of conversations are happening behind closed doors at other teams' FO meetings. Who thought Gobert to MIN is a good idea with KAT signing extension?

Also... Cleveland. ANY team that can offer 27 and 29 unprotected + a few swaps, can compete against that NYK offer IMO. I personally value 26 and 28 swaps more than the random heavily protected picks the Knicks can give us and won't ever materialize into anything more than a pick in the late teens or 20s.

Grizzlies... Suns... TOR...

Ainge really is about to break the record for most first round picks in a deal if he wants a significant upgrade over 5 (which would tie the record). This man is a god.

Sure, the Raptors, but why the **** do we want a Raptors package over what New York just offered? Is there 100% best offer even better than what New York has on the table?

The Knicks have a valid point that there low offer is better than most team's offers (unless these sad franchises are willing to go 100% in, which they arent).

I think we are living in fantasy land to think we are actually going to deal with another team that isn't New York. This is just a staring contest.
The Raps can do up to 4 firsts of their own unprotected. Let's say they do 3 and OG Anunoby, Trent Jr. You add a third team (cleveland, Phoenix, NO, ect.) that takes OG for expiring money (or just not negative) and two firsts. So 5 firsts unprotected and no bad salary. You short two team's futures in hopes one sucks.

I know the Raps are currently really good... but FVV and Siakham will hit FA... maybe Barnes doesn't explode like the supernova some think... the 25/27 picks should be decently valuable... and that wasn't even the 100% offer.

I think what you do is take the deal they are offering and say... we both know this isn't good enough. So if you really want to get this done we will come down from our ambitious ask. Take the package and add 1 pick and 1 player to the deal. Here are your choices:

- Add Grimes and a protected pick (plus 1 swap).

- Add Quickley and an unprotected pick in 27.

They might try and tweak it by saying IQ and 27 but give back a protected pick... we say fine but we get a few seconds and you take Rudy Gay.

We just aren't that far off here.

I may be in the minority but I’d rather "settle" on getting $1.25 on the dollar vs $1.50 or even $1.75 on the dollar if it meant trading Donovan before the season started vs next offseason.
Yeah, I mostly agree. I'm ready for this to be over and not have to focus on it during the actual season. I just want to start backstroking in our vault of picks like Scrooge McDuck.

It just devalues our pick this year so much that the hold up on a protected pick or something of that sort just isn’t worth it.

Knicks will get Mitchell at any cost, let them sweat it till they come around to our price. For them,Don is too big a fish in New York to let get off the line.

NY Post is reporting talks are stalled over the amount of unprotected 1st. I'm guessing they'll wind up in the middle and we'll get the Gobert package.
According to a recent proposal, courtesy of Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Knicks offered Obi Toppin, Evan Fournier, cash, two unprotected first-round picks and three protected for a total of five.

The Jazz declined. A source told The Post Ainge is after four unprotected first-round picks — not just two. That’s no small gap.

Let's see... Ainge wants 4... Knicks are offering 2... I wonder if there is a way they could meet in the middle?

It's just so funny in business and negotiations we all have to do these stupid dances.
