What's new

Jazz at Hawks, starts in 15 mins (22 Jan 2018, 5:30 pm)

I’m amazed (though not surprised) at all the Burks hate for this game. Everyone else on the team sucked. Burks leads the team in scoring (17 points on 10 shots. 5-10 from the field. 1-1 from 3. 6-7 from the line) in only 23 minutes. Had 3 deflections and a steal, drew multiple offensive fouls while on defense and his man scored very little and he had 1 turnover.

smd
Burks was just fine. I’d very much like to see a starting lineup with DM, Burks, Hood, Favors and Gobert just for fun. Then, I’d do my best to move Favors, Burks, JJ and Rubio. Bring back a couple of good pieces and build for the future around Gobert, Mitchell, Hood, Exum, 2018 Draft Pick

I think everyone would agree

The thing on Burks is that he usually plays good, but when he ****s up it just usually looks so bad or it's so obvious.

Like getting beat backdoor and not reacting until the player scores or airballing a 10' floater.

Did Hayward ever say that? I thought Hayward was BFF's with Hill. DL just needed a starting PG so he could show Hayward he was going to spend money to field a decent team after being so cheap except for Gordon's walk year. Rubio was the only PG Lindsey could acquire before the cap space expired. Lindsey is reaping what he sowed.

Lindsey not agreeing to an extension with Hill as part of the trade was moronic. You just don't waste a lottery pick on a rental.
It's called taking a risk bud. It wasn't moronic. Sometimes thing just dont work out.

Burks also has some bad mistakes when the game is kind of in the balance at times. When a teams going on a run on us, it seems like he will sometimes drive in throw up a wild shot and basically turn it over. Some mistakes hurt worse than others. Burks just seem to hurt pretty bad.

Garbage points. Also sleepwalked on defense a few times.
Like 5 of his points were in garbage time lol. I believe he scored 11 on the first half. His defense was fine. I think people want to blame his defense when it isn't always his fault. One example: one play Oneal completely lost bazemore. Burks was guarding #2. The ball goes to bazemore who is wide open for a three (cause Oneal totally lost his man). Burks sees bazemore getting the ball and runs at him and bazemore hits the three.
If you weren't paying close attention it would look like Burks fell asleep when it was actually oneal.

Also, there was a stretch where Schroder was destroying mitchell over and over. Burks guarded him twice and shut him down both times. Then they put neto on schroder and he destroyed neto too.

Burks chased bellinelli around screens a few times and bellinelli took advantage and scored but burks defense was good tonight. He took care of the ball. He scored very very efficiently, had multiple deflections defensively, drew multiple offensive fouls on the defensive end, and made some good passes and didn' ball hog.

He played a good game.

He did play in garbage minutes too though.

Whats your point? He played well in non garbage minutes on both ends and then played well in garbage minutes on both ends. Played a good 23 minutes. Some garbage time and some not. He wasnt the problem tonight.

I love Donovan, but this is true, he was horrible on defense tonight, period. Burks played better on defense tonight than Donovan. This is the first night I've seen Donovan almost just checked out, but he seemed to not really be engaged tonight. With all he's done for us as fans and this franchise this season, you can't kill him over it, but you can't just ignore it either. 82 games is a lot more than college, and tonight was the first game I felt like Donovan was just not really there.

Quote from Donovan after the game on his leadership roll after a loss like this

"I'm learning. I'm listening to guys who have been around. Understanding when to say things, understanding that part of it. Right now it's kind of crazy with like 46 games." I've learned certain things. But times like this, when there's no effort, it's a collective thing. I think we all feel it. There are times where you don't have to say much but people understand"

Donovan has mentioned how many games there are a few times already this season, I think its obvious to say Donovan is a bit worn down and is feeling an 82 game schedule that is non-relenting, especially when the Jazz's season so far seems like some great teams and a hell of a lot of road.

Rudy Gobert after loss:

"Until we start playing more physical and being more focused on what we have to do--individually and collectively--we get our *** kicked."

Seems like there is a lot of talk this year, but not so much action. I would love to see someone just lose their s**t, especially if it was Coach Snyder. Imagine if Larry was still around. There would be some screaming coming from the locker room then. We would still most likely lose, but it would be with a lot more energy.

****, donovan has earned the right to suck now and then. He has been so special and the only real joy of this season. I won't ever criticize the guy even when he deserves it this season.
