How many big men do you think an ideal NBA roster should have?

Just read a slightly outdated article from slcdunk.

https://www.slcdunk.com/nba-free-ag...anter-trevor-booker-utah-jazz-paint-is-packed (Ignore Malcolm Thomas and Erik Murphy in the article, they are not with the Jazz anymore)

The writer thinks an ideal NBA roster should have a front court with 5 big men and 6 is just too many. Now we have already six big men and looking for another one in Motum, what do you think we should do with our front court and how do we should manage our big guys?

And don't forget to vote, how many big men do you think an ideal NBA roster should have?

Edit: Consider the poll question for the active NBA roster of 13 players.

5 or 6.

Want at least 2 players who can play Center and 2 guys who can play PF, then 1 or 2 guys who bring more unique capabilities.

13. As long as half of them can dribble, pass, shoot, and defend.

Let's say you could find only 4, 5, 6, 7 or It's Obama's fault amount of big men whom half of can dribble, pass, shoot and defend.

How many would you prefer then? I assume 7, right?

Meh. Writer is making much ado over nothing.
So assuming a roster of 13, you have 5 who can play the 4/5; 5 who can play the 2/3 and 3 PG's. But most rosters aren't just 13. So go 14 deep and add the best player you can find independent of position. In this case the Jazz added Novak AND Booker. Likely going with more bigs because Kanter is an unknown. I also have a hard time seeing Evans with a role moving forward. He'll play out his contract and go elsewhere. You also have to have injury insurance.

1. I'd play Favors around 28-30 and Rudy 18-20 at the 5.
2. Kanter gets 25 mins at the 4, with the possibility of playing up to 30 if he busts his butt on defense. Novak and Booker split the remaining 23 mins. Evans only plays in garbage time or in case of injury. Motum is inactive for almost all games and is likely assigned to the Stampede.
3. Novak, Booker, Evans and Kanter are all dangled at the deadline. Jazz keep a couple, then draft a PF with next year's lottery pick.

Agree with all of the above, sure we have 7 with Motum, but two of the others Novak is a specialist (3s) and Evans a high energy guy- I can also see Kanter and Evans as filler perhaps in a trade at the deadline.
No reason why except injury -Favors 35mins and Gobert should not get less than 20 mins .

Did any NBA teams carry only 5 bigs last year?

Jeremy Evans is a pure 4 (in article)?

It depends on how flexible the rest of your roster is. The Jazz have Hayward(2,3), Burks(2,1), Hood(3,2), Exum(1,2), and Evans can play the 3. The Jazz can afford to use the extra spots for bigs because we don't need that much injury insurance at other positions.

Big Men

Better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them.

Anyone think Evans can develop a corner 3?

Also, any stats on how Evans defends the 3 vs. the 4? Maybe that's where his minutes will have to come from this season

Evans is my favorite player. Love to see his hustle. That being said, I don't know how he gets on the court as a 3. He has to beat out and take minutes from Hood and Novak. That's going to be tough since both those guys can shoot the lights out and Evans is still working on the outside shot. I hope the new coach can balance everything and keep people happy.

Evans needs more than just an outside shot to be a viable option. He needs to learn how to dribble, shoot when he's open without the team cheerleading, get into a defensive stance, aand get quicker laterally.

He never had a prayer of being a PF with his body type. Trying to develop him as one was a mistake. Dribbling, passing, shooting, lateral quickness, and increasing his hip fluidity so he could gaurd SF's should've been his goals from day one. Spending time with Malone, P3 for his jumping, and learning post moves has been a disservice and a waste of time.

you have proof he hasn't been working on these things? I see evidence that he has.

Evans has just been working on becoming a basketball player, plain and simple, rather than a track star. Spending time with a hall-of-famer is pretty much always a good idea.

I see evidence that he's worked on his shooting.

Where is the evidence with his dribbling? Do you ever see him dribble? Like ever?

Spending time with a hall of famer is always good? Loaded statement that disregards why the team never had Hayward spend time with Malone. They see Hayward as an SG/SF, and they were trying to make Evans into a PF because of the deficiencies in his basketball skills.

If Evans objective is becoming a basketball player and not a "track star" then why is there such an emphasis on P3 for him? I haven't seen him get better laterally or more fluid so he'd be able to gaurd wings. I've only seen this work show up in his jumping, which is something he has never needed help with.

Point is, he is a novelty/specialist (dunker with a jumper). Hopefully Quin and staff will stop the madness and give him attainable goals. It iw obvious he will never be big enough to gaurd PF's, or to post up. He should be learning how to be a basketball player as you say--but at the one and only position he has ever had a shot at. Small Forward.
